I pray your day gets better orinoco. When you feel down, look up. Breathe, take a few minutes and relax, and then regroup. It usually helps me.

Just getting to the puzzle now. Hope your day has improved since you posted, orinoco. That's such a neat name. It makes me think of castanets and the rhumba--not that I've ever learned the rhumba but I'd like to.

Coincidentally, the neon tetra comes from the Orinoco and Amazon deltas.

Abacii does not look like the neon tetras that I kept. Mine had a neon red and a neon blue stripe. Wonder if there is more than one kind? I know there are many types of tetras, as I had several varieties. Be safe.

Darambo, there are dozens of different kinds of tetras. If you search google for tetra images, you'll see the types you mentioned. All a fish needs to be a tetra is a tiny fin between the dorsal (back) fin and the upper caudal (tail) fin.

Abacii I know there are dozens of types of tetras. The first aquarium I had was all different types of tetras. I did not say the fish was not a tetra only not a neon tetra. The 55 gallon tank we have now is salt water. Recently our big yellow female clown fish got to close to our scooter bleenie ( not sure I spelled that right? ) and got poked in the eye with one of the barbs on it's dorsal fin and we thought she was going to lose her eye but finally the swelling went down and back to normal. We have had the fish in our tank our about 5 years. No more salt water tanks, soooo much work. Be safe.

When my son was in jr. high we bought him a fish tank. He had tetras like this and guppies and all sorts of tiny fish. I put a plastic strawberry container in the tank so the baby guppies would have a way to avoid being eaten. We ended up with about 37 fish. Once I stopped cleaning the tank for my son and we told him to take on the chore himself he fed the fish to our cats.
Hoping you are looking back on a productive day.

Am I bad for laughing out loud at this?? At least the cats were happy! I know how you must have felt. I had a huge tank when my hubby and I were in college. It's a hard job taking care of fantail guppies who are multiplying like rabbits! We went on a weekend vacation once and asked some friends to come take care of the guppies and our other pets. When we got home the tank was empty. They had had a wild party at our house, and one of the drunks decided our beautiful fish needed a drink. They must have died with a smile on their faces. We were not happy...

Oh how awful. With friends like that....
When my son had his own apartmebnt he bought a big tank for himself. He got involved with a young woman who was mentally unbalanced and they had an argument so she trashed his entire apartment and dumped the tank over. He never got another. That's the mother of our grandchild who, because my son died, has custody and so we avoid them both. That woman's mother sends a card at Christmas to tell us how the little one is doing. I pray for her and miss her but know it's better for all involved if we stay away.

Good morning everyone, hope you all have a wonderful day. We used to keep freshwater tropical wish, now we have a 55 gallon saltwater tank. We won't be getting anymore fish of any kind. Way too much work!! We had a pair of yellow clown fish that started laying eggs just a couple years ago until the male died. The female has gotten much larger and meaner. When you have to put your hand in the tank, she bites you and it stings and actually she draws blood. When she has her mouth open, you can see her teeth. Thank goodness the rest of the tank is peaceful. The fish are really pretty though. Just way too much work. You all stay safe.
