In 1814, George Stephenson, a British engineer, built the very first steam engine for the locomotive. The first American running train in New York was the Stourbridge Lion that had been ordered straight from England. The year was 1829.

How neat for Russian children. They probably need something to lift their spirits.

Morning Elijah--on the Cape, you can take a ride on one of these trains (check at your hotel for package plans) and you will get a lovely ride & delicious dinner while enjoying the scenery. Have a safe & blessed good time!

Had a great time at our reunion. I used to go on the train at Edaville (cranberry) when we lived there. Loved it. No time this time--only 3 days to do what we had to do.

That's one thing about reunions - you never have enough time to catch up with old friends. We made a biography book for our class, including email addresses so we could keep in touch.

That sounds like a good idea. My sister has all the addresses/telephone numbers and e-mail addresses. Might get the list from her and do it. This one was our last official one (63rd). However, one of the guys has a party on the last Saturday of June every year for whoever from our class wants to attend. Might try to go a few more times.

Elijah...funny you mention the Edaville Railroad. When I was a pharmacist, the owner, in his striped Engineer Cap & his best buddy, Mr Blount, of the famous Blount Seafood & Shipbuilding Co. in his Admiral Hat, used to come in together to get their RX's. These guys were friends for life & always had a great story to tell me. Edaville RR eventually started The Polar Express & Mr Blount started cruises here around Narragansett Bay--highlighted by the end of our high school year. Kids could play loud music, but no alcohol or drugs were allowed. Chaperones were there in substantive numbers.
