Although this pool is beautiful, I am sick of water, in two days we have gotten over 18 inches(46cm) of rain and it is still falling. The forecast is for two more days of rain. We now have the wettest August on record and it is the 13th of the month.

We are at the hundred years flood mark. We have 3 days more of rain expected.
Animalvr143- Northern New York just went from drought to flood. I hope you get just enough rain but not this.

Problems we call natural phenomenon (that were actually cause by man) were fortold in the Bible a couple thousand years ago. No end in sight, really. The seemingly senseless warring, torturing, killing, enslaving, etc. that is displacing so many people was also fortold. Now, even our country is facing horrible economic times and the resultant rioting of those who feel disenfranchised and put upon. The 50's, 60's, etc. will not return, and neither will our safety. Not in this world.

It also says Jesus will lift the net over the peoples. I think that's the internet.

Glenelle- thanks for the prayers.
Pixipixil-Thanks for the concern.

The water went above the new 100 years flood level put in place after hurricane Katrina. New subdivisions just built were flooded almost to the roofs. Roads became rivers. Several horses are stuck on rooftops. People who never flooded in 50 years have water at their door. I was lucky I was just stuck in my house surrounded by water on all sides. Please keep praying. This is not over yet.

I hope you are upstream from the rain that already fell and is flowing to the sea. This will surely be the first real test for the new dikes in New Orleans. The news coverage of the flooding is so sad. Prayers on the way still.

I didn't really feel I could swim until college. Always afraid of deep water, I finally overcame that when I convinced myself I could float on my back all the way to the other side. I succeeded. After that, I added arm movements and a stronger kick. Eventually, I was able to turn onto my torso, work my breathing, and arms. I knew if I got tired I could always turn over and float on my back.

My daughter did synchronized swimming for entertainment in Torrance, California, from about 1994-98. I was proud of her because she could do a double ballet leg. I hoped she would keep up the sport and eventually go to the Olympics, but she decided to quit when she felt some others her age were more advanced. After taking some community college courses and working, she went into the U.S. Army where she served two years.

Your daugher sounds like a very fine young woman. You have much to be proud of.
I taught the daughters of neighbor in piano and they also did sync. swimming. I went to a meet once.

When I try to float on my back I sink. I tried and tried to learn to tread water but I go straight to the bottom. I will only swim in a pool. I can always walk underwater if I have to.

You and me both, swamplady. If I don't keep kicking my feet they drop down under me and down I go.

@Swamplady and pixipixil

Even when just floating on one's back, it's helpful to have a little foot movement. The more muscular the body, the more apt one is to sink. Lung capacity is a key. Happy treading!

I love swimming too. I have very strange bones with inside honeycombs 4 times the size as normal so I have gone to sleep many times just laying on mr back on the water. I just don't sink. When I was learning to scuba dive, I kept bringing my partner to the top of the pool with both of us with a 45lb tank on our backs. The instructor had to bring me a 20lb weight belt to the pool so I could stay down.

If I ever take a cruise you're coming with me animalvr.
When I was young I remember seeing this ol;d man floating on his back between the waves. He never moved and never sank. Maybe he had the same kind of bones.

Me too. I wish they had put the men's on prime time eventhough we didn't win. I love wartching floor exercises.
It's a shame only the winners are supported. What happened to team spirit and patriotism?
When I was at worlds competing we were told it was supposed to be a bridge-building thing where we'd make friends with other skaters. Someone had told the Europeans to give us the cold shoulder instead. We were at the rink from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm and the only food was rink food which gave me diarrhea. By the end of the week I had lost 10 lbs and was bored and lonesome. The other team members were not friendly either mostly. Much went on like the first night when we arrived we had three to the room and only 2 beds so I slept on the floor.
By the time Wide World of Sports came I was pretty down
but expected to be part of the interview but they only talked to a skater they had been tipped might win something and totally ignored the rest of us. (She didn't but neither did I) We were invisible and would only get on TV if we made a certain placement. We were told the judging would be biased toward or against us by where the judges were from but I was getting good scores until the other judges realized our own American judges were low balling me. Then they followed suit.
I always remember how much it would have meant not to have been invisible just because I wasn't slated to win.

When did you compete? I presume it was for ice-skating. Where did you compete? I never did sports--except some neighborhood softball. However, I love watching, especially the ice-skating and gymnastics.

Only roller skaters know that roller skating has all the same moves as ice and the same competitions EXCEPT the Olympics which never allowed us in.
I competed in the 50's & 60's. In those days few did triples. Only senior men managed 2 1/2 turns but by the time I retired one senior man had several triples. I had a 2 1/2 clean but never used it after I got it clean. Go figure. I used to send designs for other skaters to wear. I love designing outfits.

Thanks for the info. Very interesting. I was on a site the other day--not sure which one--that compared the Olympics today to that in the 50's. It was very interesting.
