Have lots of these that love to try to get to the bird feeder. I have a bare spot on the grass where the bird seed has fallen and the squirrels usually get left-overs there.

Love to see the Squirrels but you seem to find the red ones in Scotland, but here in north Yorkshire you see more grey one, whom seem to be a bit more nasty, but then none of us humans are perfect.

I haven't seen any this year here, but did see a fat Robin & a Blue Jay the other day. Just hope we don't get the wild Turkey's on the Patio this year.

Love these colourful leaves, love red squirrels but not struck on the grey ones, I must admit they are cute to look at but the damage they can do to some one's home is unbelievable.

And the cost of having them steal all the birdseed is also unbelievable.

I just bought a feeder the squirrels can't get into. It has a cage around the seed holder, the birds can get the seed but the squirrels can't

We've raised 4 gray squirrels and they are wonderful and funny little creatures. And soft, too! If we couldn't find one (we used to let them run around in the house) we only had to look in the laundry basket where they loved to burrow.

Sounds adorable, trynfindit. I love cats but don't like my neighbor's cat waiting under my feeder to catch the birds and I like squirrels when they stick to the trees in the back yard. Of course the critters don't understand but it is frustrating sometimes.

Some one gave me tip if you do not want the squirrels to take the bird seed put some chillies seeds on the bird feeder, the birds love them, but it is a no no for the squirrels and it does them no harm.

Thanks Santaclaus. Worth a try.

It's generally not the small seed that the squirrels are after, it's the sunflower seeds and larger bits that are in the mix.

You can buy bird seed that doesn't have the sunflower seeds.

If you want, you can put bird seed through a sieve (you can easily make one from a very small squared hardware-cloth that can be purchased at a hardware store or home improvement store) that will catch the larger seeds; then put those on a raised tray or feeder for the squirrels.

Thanks trynfindit but the squirrels have plenty to eat w/o me spending money on them to encourage more to come to the yard. Plus I love the larger birds--woodpeckers and jays especially--that prefer nuts. The sparrows don't even like the little seed much. It all falls on the tray and the yellow jackets have become alcoholics on it as it ferments.

LOL. I see what you mean. Our jays get a lot of acorns from the 3 huge oak trees on our property. The squirrels around here eat from our feeders, from the oak trees, the orange tree, the persimmon tree and they eat mushrooms out of the yard.

Ha. I've never seen that. Mushrooms huh? We get them (mushrooms) in the yard when we have a wet spell but I never caught the squirrels eating them...Maybe they weren't the edible kind. They have pine nuts and hickory nuts in the back and eat the apples and cherries in the front. Lots of good apples this year but I can't eat them.

We fed the squirrels we raised all sorts of veggies when we weaned them off their soy milk (they can't drink cow's milk because they don't have the necessary enzimes to break it down). Mushrooms were one of the things we fed them so, when we released them, they likely went for something that looked familiar (and taught their young'uns to do so).

It's amazing what animals learn and pass on. A chimp at some zoo taught all his kids to use the water fountains. I think I'll skip using them myself!

Once saw a squirrel like this one on a trip to England in my sisters back garden, they lived in town so I was surprised to see it.
Thank you team the background was a challenge but enjoyed it.

We have what seems like a cart load of the things in our garden and the damage done to trees and bulbs is astounding. We call them "tree rats" for they are considered vermin. These live everywhere, towns cities and the countryside they killed the brown squirrels which are now found in the north and some islands.

Cute little squirrel. They are running around now storing up food for the winter.
Did you all have a fun Halloween? Now it's time to think about Thanksgiving. The time goes so fast. I can't believe summer is over already. I live by myself and you would think time would drag but it sure doesn't. God bless you all wherever you are.

I totally agree with all of you, the older you get the faster it goes.
The more we live
more brief appears
our life succeeding stages
a day to chilhood, seem a year
and a year like passing ages...
