Fast one. Thread has become very expensive. Sewing is no longer a money saving activity unless you can find a place that sells remnants. We used to have a wonderful fabric section at WalMart that carried a large assortment of fabrics at very low prices. That changed when they enlarged the store. It is no longer the place to get that rare find.
Hoping you have good places to shop.

I am no longer sewing. Made all my clothes when I taught and also made slipcovers for my furniture. Cheaper to buy clothes now than to make them. I just keep some thread for repairs. Still have my 40 year old sewing machine which I use occasionally.

I stockpiled many bins of fabric when WalMart and other stores had cheap fabric for sale. Because of this I still sew. I even got lucky with thread. Someone dumped two boxes of thread cones at a thrift store and I bought them for a dollar each. I returned half of it after sorting through. Then, since I already had the thread I bought a serger. It's a misery to thread but so much fun to use. I reupholstered two chairs and
a divan and made a bedspread that my husband doesn't use. I have plans to do more reupholstery but don't really enjoy doing it so I've been putting it off. I prefer making clothes.

You are ambitious! Thru sewing now except for repairs.

I feel responible to put these things to use since I consider these a gift from God. I'm not particularly ambitious any more since I don't look pretty in nice clothes--too old and wrinkly--and have no place to wear them but church. I have turned to making coats because that's all you see most of the year here. Right now I'm trying to gun up the energy to make a gown for a Feb wedding.
Just a guest. Hate to see the stuff be a one use item.

You are really ambitious to make a gown for a wedding. Good luck.

Thanks. I made all the gowns for my own wedding.
I went to FIT to learn apparel design so I know how to do it. I never got a chance to use my creativity in the industry so I use it for myself and family.

My mother took sewing lessons even tho she was a good seamstress. Made many suits for my sister. I didn't need any for teaching and made my own clothes then.

Nice puzzle. Reminds me of when my Grandma Esther used to sew a lot.

I hardly ever use thread anymore. However I must have every color in the rainbow. My mother used to be a beautiful seamstress and I probably still have some thread from when she used to sew.

My mother was a beautiful seamstress too! She made snowsuits for us ----requiring a lining, interlining, and outer layer!!!

Are there wooden spools of thread any more? I figured they had gone to plastic all the way.

I have a few from my grandmother, but I used to have dozens. The plastic and styrofoam ones are awful, I think.
