Don't like this tradition and unfortunately it seems to be taking off here in Australia. Saw too many nasty things happen when I live in North America for eight years and hope that sort of thing does not happen here as well.

Good night and God bless. Hugs.

Our neighborhood doesn't have trick or treat. I don't remember doing it when I was in grade school in Chicago, but when we moved to Massachusetts we did it a few times. However, times were much different then.

We grew up with this and my parents always made sure we did our trick and treating in good neighborhoods and my mother would inspect every piece of candy to make sure it was safe to eat. Now there are a lot of places that have "trick and trunk", I think that is what it is called, where a school, church, or business holds a time where people who are associated with them, will bring their cars to the business, school, church and load their trunks with goodies for the kids who come to trick or treat. It is safer and the kids, and parents, don't have to walk down dark streets to follow the custom. We never had problems as kids, but the times are surely changed, and are changing to something that is far less safe for the kids.

When I lived in New York City, they has an interesting variation on trick or treat: the children dressed up in their costumes and, squired by a parent, wandered the streets, demanding money from anyone they met. I suppose this is how the city's panhandlers got their training.

As a teacher of primary grades I enjoyed watching the excitement the little ones had about Halloween. However, I think most teachers would agree that their favorite day for Halloween to fall upon would be Saturday --- removed from school days!

They still do in the elementary and middle schools in our town.

Having been born in the early 1950's, I have seen Halloween change so much in New York. When I was a kid, no one above the age of 12 would be caught on the streets on Halloween night unless they were accompanying younger children. Only a few trouble making teenagers draped trees in toilet paper or sprayed shaving cream. Now there are antisocial things done by delinquents that cause real problems.

Sad doggy. And I bet none of the treats will be for him. Cute puzzle, tho. He looks like how I felt as a toddler when my dad would make me pose under flood lights so he could take a photo. Ugh. No instamatics cameras then.
Hope your day has none of those "Oh no" moments.

I love Halloween (All Hallows Eve). We grew up in a good neighborhood and are fortunate to live in a good one so trick-or-treating has always been fun. We see the young children each year as they grow and when they're grown they bring their children around. People will bring their children from other neighborhoods to trick-or-treat in ours as well as other nice neighborhoods in our city. When the children at the door are more grown (yeah, they're a little old for trick-or-treating) I open the door and say, "Oh, y'all brought me some candy! " As they are looking somewhat confused I give them candy.

I wish my Dad and our pup, Skippy, could see this. At Halloween, my Dad dressed as a ghost in a sheet to answer the door for Trick-or-Treaters. Skippy was flummoxed! --- he knew it was Daddy, but couldn't accept the ghost get-up! He watched the process warily and was greatly relieved when trick-or-treat time was over!
