What a long slender bill. Beautiful bird.

So THIS is what a snipe looks like. When I was in Boy Scouts - "several" years ago, we would go out snipe-hunting late at night, but were told it looked like a 3-legged chicken. lol
With it's slender bill, that's all I could afford by the middle of the month.

We went snipe hunting in Girl Scouts too, just don't remember what they were suppose to looked like, didn't even know they existed until we had another puzzle at one time....You can have our thunder & lighting had some already today and more to come for the next several days, it's Fair Week here and it always rains, but we will keep our Thunder team here!

Wade a minute. It should be closer to the water - like herons, swans, ducks, etc. But that MAY be water in the background.

The other snipe is in the water, & this also looks like water in this one when I enlarge it. Do snipes like fresh water or saltwater, if it is saltwater Ks., & OK don't have much of that.

They like fresh water, rather than stale. lol They live near rivers or sometimes lakes.

First time campers at our church camp were also sent on a snipe hunt, didn't work for me as I had been around a mother that was a Girl Scout leader & dad that was a Boys Scout leader.

Cute little bird. Watch out for that bill - it looks like it could poke a pretty deep hole in you if you got in its way.

Looks like a bit of a sticky beak to me (sorry PW -don't mean to steal your thunder).

"Every man has his secret sorrows which the world knows not; and often times we call a man cold when he is only sad."
– Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

"The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all."
– Walt Disney Company, Mulan

God bless all of you and take care. Hugs.

You didn't steal MY thunder, AS. It's not even raining here. You just postponed my thunder until Saturday and Sunday when we are supposed to get more rain. Loved the "sticky beak" remark. This bird COULD make a point of it.

We have many birds around New England, but I'm not familiar with this one.

Do you do "birding". my daughter does and goes to Plum Island in MA. Think you are right and its not one you see in New England.
