My sewing machine is at least 50 years old and still works fine. Had it repaired many years ago and I still use it. Used to make all my own clothes when the material was cheap. Now only use occasionally. It's also hard to fine stores that stock material to use.
Have you tried thrift stores? One near me used to have some wonderful remnants people who died left behind. They were often a couple of yards. Of course if you need something specific you are stuck. Sometimes if I need fabric I will look in the thrift for a very large size skirt and get it that way. I sure miss the days when there were several fabric stores that carried remnants that were good for more than quilting. WalMart used to be a treasure trove. No more.

NOTHING is the same as it was, even 10 years ago. This is sad since people are struggling now.

I also love to sew. Sewn since I was eight years old. Used a singer that had been converted from peddles. It was a beast. Your so right fabric is expensive and also patterns. Loved this puzzle.

The one I have now is electronic. Even the foot pedal requires taking it to a dealer.

Wow. Not for me. Simple Singer sewing machine for industrial sewing.
Fun to work, but took me too long.
I'll blame it on my migraine!
Had the opportunity couple times to buy a sewing machine, said I didn't need one. Come to find out that I DID need one and ended up buying a "TOY" tiny sewing machine and it only does one type of stitch, but fixes what needs to be sewed and repaired!!!
