I just saw my first Robin of Spring today, although my husband saw some over a week ago. So, spring is on its way! Our robins look different than this one as their feathers on their backs and wings are black. And I think they are bigger than this one too.

Robins lie. I heard several last week and we're now looking out at 6 inches of fresh snow, with more to come tomorrow. So much for spring in Alaska.

My yard in VA is littered with robins from early morning until afternoon. They have been coming around for about a month now.

Aknan, maybe the robins will build little igloos to stay warm.

One of the good things that the almost daily rain is causing is an abundance of birds here; including robins. I have to go back to work Monday, now that spring break is over UGGHH!

Or alternatively trynfindit, Aknan and her significant other could build little igloos for them hahahah. Hugs.

Aussie, I can just see my Dearly Beloved building little igloos for birds! It'll never happen. Speaking of my DB, after moving 12 inches of snow with the snow blower, he was so tired he could barely walk - and he still did the neighbor's drive, too. Gotta love that man!

I hope he likes living there, PW; it's kind of the end of civilization. Haven't been up there yet - takes time and plenty of funds for the air fare!

Aknan, He LOVES it there. He has only been there for 18 years, though. He would like me to visit. I asked him what day summer is, but he wasn't sure what day it would be this year.

Sweet little robin.

The cyclone "Debbie" has caused so much damage in north Queensland with some towns running out of drinking water and no power. Please pray that these towns will at least get the power back, because no power, the sewage treatment plants are not working and could cause so much more damage than has already happened. Pray for those people who have lost everything and received so much damage with roofs being torn off and all their personal belongs, furniture etc, water damaged.

We are a lot further south, but tomorrow and Friday we are expecting lots of rain from the tail end of the cyclone.

Thank you and God bless you all. Hugs.

Hopefully Cyclone Debbie dies out quickly by going inland. Cyclones, like hurricanes, get a lot of their energy by being over water. Hopefully the ground can absorb all of that water.

Every week it seems a new disaster hits somewhere in the world and takes homes, neighborhoods and lives. I pray every night for them wherever they are (many are in the USA from floods and tornadoes and wildfires.) Naturally you down under folk are included.

Thank you all. It is absolutely bucketing down with rain this morning and I am supposed to go out as I have an appointment I have been waiting for three months to go to. However, it will have to ease off a bit before I venture out. If I do go, my new car will get wet aaaahhhhrrrrgggg hahaha. Can't have that can we lol. Hugs.

Praying for everyone affected by this and all other storms in their lives. We just went through something similar to this two weeks ago but it was mostly the winds without the rain. Downed trees, roofs damaged and people were without power for a week or so. We were fortunate. Hoping sunshine soon for everyone.

Hi JamieT and kjd3682,
The robins do bob, bob, bobbin' along! When they arrive in Hernando County Florida, it's a feeding frenzy. They swoop down, fill themselves up, and swoosh they are gone. Going back up north for the summer. :)) They are funny to watch, huge flocks of them. :))

This little robin is a 'European robin.' They are much smaller than our American robins and zoom around quickly like wrens or chickadees.
JamieT
Mar 30, 2017
Thanks for that info trynfindit. I was wondering that because the coloration didn't look like most American robins I've ever seen.

tomandray - here in Missouri, and I'm sure in many other places, you'll occasionally see a robin hopping along the ground with their head cocked to one side, trying to find a worm.

Robins can actually hear the worms and some burrowing insects underground. The cocked head helps them locate the source of the sounds.

A baby robin so cute and sweet! It reminds me of the 50's song "Rockin Robin". My mother used to play it all the time!
