Would have been nice to have a playroom while growing up. Love some of those toys! I finally gave our alphabet blocks to my niece for her daughters' children. We did lots of puzzles while growing up.
Also had many books to read! (my mother was a 1st grade teacher until she got married. Women teachers could not be married!

WOW!! I had no idea that women couldn't be a teacher if they were married! I would have been lost and miserable because teaching was something I loved. I started in Honduras and just kept going when I came back to the States. Teaching was the best job I was blessed to have.

My husband was a teacher and so were his two brothers and a sister. They all loved it. I was certified and taught a bit but it made me too nervous. I did enjoy the little kids, tho.

My mother taught for eight years until she was married in 1934 --- high school commercial subjects.
Marriage ended her teaching career. But --- I know she made a good choice!

Women teachers also couldn't continure to teach if they were pregnant. I suppose it would have made us ask questions...

All of you! My mother taught until 1935 when she got married. She taught 1st grade for 7 years. She had us (I'm a twin) November 1936.

Elijah, my mother was a first grade teacher back in the same time period. I think that's why my spelling and grammar were so good. She taught me all the rules before I would learn them in school. Her best friend, Connie taught with her and...she was dating a young man, Leon, who was a twin! They set up Mom with Leon's twin, Don. I'm not sure how long they taught, but the two marriages ended all that...Between the two couples there were 9 children, so both of our houses looked like this all the time!

My mother was a teacher in Massachusetts and my father lived in Chicago so that's where I lived until he passed away and then we moved back to Massachusetts and we graduated from high school there. Mother married again and they moved to Florida so we had to also.

I was an only child and lived in a big farm house with five rooms that could be bedrooms. I had my own room and one whole room for a play room. It was nice. Had lots of things,

Aknan, where was that that pregnant women couldn't teach? That is crazy.

Elijah13, I apologize for misunderstanding what you said about your mom and teaching. I really read that wrong and I am sorry.

Becky, when I was in jr. high (late '60s), one of my teachers became pregnant. She left Friday as Ms. Smith and came back Monday as Mrs. Jones - and was allowed to finsh out the term since she wasn't showing much. We (her students) held a baby shower for her in class one day - so many pretty blankets! - and there were more than a few tears on both sides. We had plenty of married teachers, but again, if one became pregnant, we had a sub for the rest of the term. Glad times have changed!

There is a recent TV commercial with a grandfather and granddaughter seated at a little table. His knees are about up to his chin! The granddaughter is doing a messy job of polishing his nails. They are both enjoying each other!

A bright, happy place. We should strive to keep making bright happy places for the adults in our lives too...and for ourselves if there's no one else to do it for.
May God give each of us the gift to bring joy to others.
