What a beautiful flower --- the shape, the million filaments, the color. I love it and the butterfly does too! The color reminds me of my high school prom dress --- which I wore to events all through college.

The bloom is so light and airy. I never knew there was a mimosa plant, just an alcoholic drink.

In Hawai'i they are called Lehua trees (metrosideros polymorpha, the %u014Dhia lehua), and much honoured in songs. "Sweet Lei Lehua" is a beautiful tune. And there's a beautiful legend about the lovers, Ohia and Lehua as well. :D

Here in Spain it's called a mimosa tree. Mimosa, or mimoso, means "affectionate" or sometimes, rather spoiled and used to being cuddled and made much of.

We also call them mimosa trees in America. I have never seen one with red bloom. In Louisiana I have seen them with pink and cream blooms or all cream colored blooms. The red is beautiful.

There weren't any of these trees in Honduras when I lived there, but "mimosa" is a word I know. Have a great day, orninoco!

My grandmother had both the red and the pink back in Arkansas. I would spend hours up in their limbs, reading and dreaming.

The ones we have locally are pale lavendar. Could be a hybrid, but often flower colour is influenced by the minerals in the soil. I had a friend who would bury copper coins in the pots where she grew pansies to get the colour to change, but I can't remember what colour she wanted to get.

I learned something new today, Orinoco. Thank you for sharing that bit of information. I'll have to try it. I remember my grandmother placing rusty nails in the soil around Hydrangeas to change the color of the flowers. We are never too old to learn from others.

FIg trees benefit from having wood ashes worked around their roots - bigger fruit and hardier plant. My grandmother and mother both did this.

From one mamag to another mamag. Every Sunday morning, a young man always greets me as mamag. Perhaps it is because he is one of 8 children and he knows there are also 8 in mine, as well.

Loved working this puzzle, love the flower very pretty. Taking a break, I am making Pear Jam today. Need to do 5 batches. We have our own pears, strawberries, apples and grapes. When my husband and I go south for the winter I take pear jam to my knitting friends. They had never tasted pear jam before and now love it. So here I go again to make a few batches to take to our friends. Next the grapes will be ready, make jam and juice. Already did tomatoes so getting close to the end of the garden for the year. I also made 6 loaves of zucchini bread. Hope everyone is having a Blessed Day! God is so good!

Sounds fantastic! And lucky friends to get such treats!

My family loves my zucchini bread. I also make brown sugar butter to put on the slices.
