I've had very little luck with the erasers on pencils. They all seem to be too dry. I generally use a Pink Pearl (think back to grade school) or a white gum rubber one. Those have even been able to take off ink marks.

I think you're 100% right aknan. Now I remember the pink eraser I used in school.
I use pencils very rarely, and only once in a while at the library where I volunteer. One thing that gets my goat is a dirty eraser. You don't know until you use it, and it smudges your paper. Ugh!
I have erasers at home but can't tell you the last time I used one. You are either on the computer and hit "delete" or "backspace" or if you are using paper, you use white-out.
