Okay..that's the last one I'm doing with a Halloween theme. This was fun though, I have to admit. Will be giving out candy tomorrow night, but don't enjoy the cold air coming in the doorway as I hand out the goodies. It's cold here in Oregon. Brrr.

Halloween is coming too fast--then Thanksgiving and Christmas. Time is flying by. Nobody comes in my neighborhood for trick or treat. I always buy 1 bag of candy, just in case. I have lived here 20 years and maybe 3 or 4 times a few children come by. Most go to town or church activities.

The ghost is clear. Don't let them drive you batty or you might end up in a cat-tastrophe. Now witch cookies were you referring to jas?

BOO!

Is there such a thing as black food color? Please don't tell me it is melted licorice. That is the scariest thing possible! Yetch!

I didn't think of that. Maybe chocolate with blue coloring in it. That would turn black. I like some types of licorice--the kind like anice, but others have a tarry taste I don't like at all.

Yes, there is black food coloring. I have noticed it in stores for the past 4 years or so.

Wow! I learn new things all of the time doing these puzzles. Thanks, Gang. However, in my opinion of course, I can't think of any appealing black food. How UN-appetizing! - Not even cute black cookies look all that good to me.

You should start with chocolate icing so you do not have to use as much. Both red and black food coloring(paste or gel) can have an odd taste if you use a lot.

I shouldn't have said anything here at all. I cannot remember the last time I baked any cookies, no matter what color. I buy the color that appeals to me.

Wilton makes black coloring, I've used it and loved it. Try Walmart? they usually have a good Wilton supply.

Don't worry, Starrphyre. We never mind your comments. You don't have to be an expert to have an opinion. I have never made any fancy cookies and haven't baked cookies forever but I used to make a birthday cake for my son each year and decorated it. It was far from professional-looking but we all enjoyed it anyway.

Thanks, Pixi. I make a heck of a box cake if I try a hard and have someone around to eat it. ;-)

I agree! I don't get the logic of telling kids, for 364 days of the year, "Don't take sweets from strangers, don't go with strangers" and then for Halloween, "Go knock on strangers' doors and ask them for sweets"! Plus I don't like the emotional blackmail that tries to make you keep a stock of sweets for them - whether you can afford it or not. I don't - I go out!

I only took my children to homes of people we knew, often to find a large bowl of candy sitting in a chair under the porch light.
