I took pottery and I can center--sometimes--but I can't seem to get the feel of drawing the pot up into a shape I want. It has a mind of its own. I do a little better with slabs. Actually doing little figures is the easiest for me. I just don't have the knack for the wheel. Wish I did. The people who can do it make it look so easy.
I tried it once, many many moons ago. The results were hilarious. Can you imagine how difficult it is trying to centre a pot on the wheel? I decided to do canework instead.

It takes a little practice and a steady hand. I did a lot at one time and made a lot of pots of various size and shapes, some so hilarious they never got into the kiln. Another thing you need is the ability to laugh at yourself!!

Believe me Barbaranne, in my case it would have taken much more than a little practice! And I would have ended up dying with laughter.
