Bakers are true artists. Love the way they use icing as a canvas for their art.

I know. I decided not to get any more cats when my last died as I figured they'd outlive me and my only relative has 2 dogs and no cats. They'll always be my fav. Dogs not so much.

Hi Pixipixil,
I know what you're saying..I also have no one left to pass my kitties to, so we did not bother to adopt anymore. Do miss all my girls; there were four at one time. That is quite a house full. Each had to have their own territory. :)) I did have one dog many years ago when I was single. Her name was Tasha, true blue, wonderful dog. She was a Malamute/Shepard mix, so beautiful, so smart. Very high maintenance, lots of shedding. She loved the park and the ducks. :))

That's the thing with dogs. Walks twice a day when it's below zero is not my idea of fun. I like most animals but having one's own is another story.
And vet costs these days are astronomical.

Hi Pixipixil,
Vet bills are now through the roof. Would no longer be able to have a pet of any kind. we are retired, on a fixed income. It would be difficult. Dogs do have to be walked in all kinds of weather, no mater what, they are high maintenance. With Tasha, we had an enclosed yard, so she could roam in the back yard. That is no longer the case. We live in a deed restricted community. No fences.
Have a good day. Looks like it's going to rain around here. Very humid.

Just got my new winter jacket, it's really nice. It has a hood and will repel rain or snow. My son found it for me.

Never heard the term deed restricted before. We have a fenced yard and let one of our dogs out to roam but he got out and got hit and killed...pretty golden and we only had him a few months when he got killed. Right on top of that my cat was poisoned and died. I have thought it was deliberate to make me too demoralized to pass my recital which was that weekend. It certainly didn't help. There are some really nasty people around here involved in music. My tires were slashed when I went to practice with my accompanist & other lesser stuff so I would not put killing my pets past them.

Sounds very nice, CatLadyOKC. Good son to find you a jacket. What color is it? I am using my "old" one from the last two years. We hardly get any use of them at all. It's just too warm here most of the winter to wear a heavy winter jacket. A lite jacket will do most of the time. I think I only used my heavy winter coat/jacket once last winter. :)

I would call it crimson, close to OU colors. Got my teeth cleaned this noon, they are shining now!

To: CatLadyOKC...Crimson is such a lovely color, wear it in good health. Teeth cleaning, such a chore, really don't like going to the dentist. But I know I have to go, soon. You just reminded me to make an appoint. I've been having so much trouble with my digestive track, that has completely consumed me. I had an appoint. for an esophagus/throat dilation on Monday. It has been changed. More waiting. These problems seem to continue on since February when I was in the hospital. On and on, no end in sight.
To: Pixipixil...Sounds like you have some really mean neighbors. But you know what they say, Mean people will be mean...They don't know how to be anything but mean. It feeds their soul.
Too bad you have to put up with that. Moving would be your only option. Where do you live? RE: Deed restriction....I never knew of this until I moved to FL. Many communities have deed restrictions. Can not erect a fence around your house, where you can store your trash bins, when they can be put out & then brought back in. Can not be out on the curb too long. That is just some of the restrictions. There is also a color restriction for the house, must be approved by the board. :))

Hi Tomandray I'm across the river from Albany NY--about 10 minutes off the highway. My brother used to live in a gated community in CA so I know about the restrictions in those. Don't think I'd like that much. As it is our neighbors constantly complain about something eventhough we aren't gated. They fight with eachother too. When we lived in a different part of NY we were between two families that were like the Hatfields and McCoys. Maybe it's a New York thing. Would like to try some other state like one far away from here.
My uncle (93) lives in a retirement apartment in Florida. He's in Sarasota which is pretty but we don't care for Florida weather. If we go it'll be towards my brother in AZ.

Hi Pixiepixil, AZ? Good Grief! It's so hot there and very drying. Not to mention crowded. As a (retired) travel agent, I've been all over this planet. 30+ cruises, 7 continents. AZ is not a place to move to, drying of the skin, and bloody nose is what I got. I've been there! , Scottsdale and Mesa. My brother in law lives there, we visited for a week. Oh dear, I was glad to be home.
When it comes to FL, there are so many regions, many I would not live in, just too crowded, much to humid/hot. You would be happy north of SR 50 that runs through Orlando. The more north you go the cooler the weather is. We are in Weeki Wachee, even with SR 50 on the Gulf coast. We're 7 miles from the beach, but it is much cooler than the mid-portion of the state. We get the nice cool breezes of the gulf, plus the beach, the wild life all around us and the sunshine. Great place to live. You can go a bit more north and it gets chillier in the winter, even frost. Florida is very diverse. There is something for everyone likes and enjoyments. I have a old high school buddy, just moved to FL (retired from teaching). She loves the east coast of FL, way busy. But that is her, a social butterfly, never home. She loves it there. There is horse country, near Ochoee, there is the panhandle of FL, gets very, very cold there, freezes. My aunt lives in Panama City Beach, she is right on the beach in a condo. She loves it there; originally from Chicago area. She wouldn't live anywhere south of beloved condo. She has her circle of friends. There is so much to choose from in FL, I would not dismiss it.
The first time I visited FL was an eye opener, I was a teen, Ft. Lauderdale, fun times...but not for me now. Way too busy and crowded. Then I visited Orlando in the early 80's, great place. We moved there. But it also got crowded and very commercialized. Not for me anymore. Then we moved out in the country, orange grove area, good, but we moved on to the Nature Coast. Lovely, tranquil, peaceful. Great place for us. Hope you find your great place, peaceful and tranquil. Well, Pixiepixil, have a great day...a peaceful day. And Pixie, know what I'm saying to you is true, Mean People will be mean, it's in there nature. They don't know how to be any different.
Keep the faith. :)

Thanks so much for your travelogue of Florida and your good advice about people. Before I was married I saw a psychologist for a while. She gave me similar advice. In this case I was teaching figure skating and the people in that skating club were vicious as were the other pros. When I quit because it was giving me terrible stomach attacks the son of the pro from a neighboring rink took my place. I had skated at that rink as an amateur and the pro gave my place on the World Team to another girl he was teaching eventhough I had beaten her in every contest. I had no love for him or his son. I said to my doctor that the skaters would probably be great to this fellow and she said they;d treat him the same way they treated me. Apparently she was right becuse he only stayed one season also.

This puzzle definitely made my mouth water for sweets. for those of you who don't like lots of icing---scrape it off onto my plate!
Anybody know what the black stuff is? I don't think it's licorice.
We're having a rainy, windy day. Kids haven't come to our house in many years. No sidewalks and the traffic has gotten pretty heavy.
Speed limit here is 25 & 30 but they buzz by at 40 sometimes.
Hope all your kiddies have a safe and happy day.

Pixi, there is actually a black food coloring. I don't think it's flavored, but if it's licorice, please leave me out!

As a kid I remember hating licorice but after growing up I have discovered there is more than one licorice type flavor. The anisette type I thoroughly enjoy but I find the other tastes sort of tarry and I dislike that one.

So happy to be back after having no power from Saturday evening until yesterday afternoon! We had what PG&E calls a "Public Safety Power Shutoff" they turned off the power to millions of people because high winds were forecast that might blow tree limbs into power lines and spark another fire. Funny thing is, even with no power we had some serious fires in the area. Praising God we don't have to crank up the generator right now to keep our food frozen! (and that I have internet again! )
