Aussiesapphire, I agree on the soil needed. I would put a fake bottom in that big barrel. Those plants don't need that much dirt for their roots. LOL!!

This seems to have been lovingly selected, arranged and planted.
However, I wouldn't want so many barrels in front of my house -- but maybe it's a store. And bright pink! --- no thanks. P.S. I didn't get out of bed on the wrong side!

You can bet the store has only women's stuff inside. With all that heavy stonework it couldn't have been easy making a feminine statement.
Hoping you can stay where the weather won't make you uncomfortable.

Only the second time I've seen pink window frames. The first was my mother's neighbour, growing up. White (ish) aluminium siding with pink windowframes and pink shingles around the windows on the upper story. (Ick, actually.)

It looks so pretty but fair gives me a headache thinking about the bags of potting mix you would have to use to fill those barrels.

Good night and God bless. Hugs.

I'll share a gardening trick I use; fill a garbage bag with soda cans and plastic bottles (any light material- some use styrofoam "peanuts") and put the bag in the base of the planter up to take up space. Then top it off with potting soil. My canna lilies are thriving this way.

Most flower barrels like that have a false bottom so there is only a normal amount of potting mix needed. Also that way they can be moved easily if necessary.

Absolutely true! Filling those barrels would not have been easy. Hope you had a good night, my friend, and may your day be filled with feeling glad and blessed. Hugs to you, too

What a good idea. I just filled a cut off (at about two thirds) 55 gallon barrel to make a planter for a tomato plant. We've been here over 30 years and I have yet to get decent tomtoes so I stopped planting any. This will be the first year I have in an age. Will let you know if we get anything. The plant is still very small--about 6 inches high. It probably won't even set fruit until August.
The tulips I put in did well and the bulbs are still down deep so I figure the tomatos will still have plenty of soil for growing.
