Looks yummy. I used to hate beef stew when I was a kid, love it now. In fact I just made some the night before last. So good on cold days, really warms you up inside. You all be safe in this new year.

Mamag how are you doing my friend? Ed loves venison. He used to hunt every year and when he got older it bothered him too much to shoot the animals. Now hunts with his Nikon. Got to have biscuits with stew ;-D lol!! Be safe my friend

I am doing a little better. My little Chip is a great therapy dog. My husband and I used to love hunting with his dad. There are so many memories of the three of us out in the freezing cold looking for that one deer.

Mamag I must have missed something.....you got yourself a dog!! That's great, I know the companionship will help, animals give unconditional love and they are so great to cuddle with. What kind of dog is he? Now you won't come home to an empty house and I bet Chip is so happy to see you. You be safe and I'll write soon.

Chip is a beagle and he is a rescue dog. He is about 2 years old and we are fighting heartworm disease. He had a heavy treatment today and is sleeping a lot. I read that this is normal and he needs to stay calm. His appetite should also pick up. I keep getting this dreaded feeling that he is not going to survive this.

You probably detested this dish because those who cooked before the mid 60s seemed to think that meat, veggies, noodles, etc. should be cooked to death. Our childhood meals were probably low in vitamins and minerals because of this practice.

Retirenow I think my tastes changed as I got older as I find there are quite a few things I didn't like as a kid that as I got older I found I really liked. You do have a valid point about cooking things to death. Take care and be safe.

Mamag, I've been off the site for a few days and just saw that Chip has heartworms. He is a young dog and stronger than he would be if he were older so, while the treatments can be hard on dogs, I think that Chip will come through it. Have hope and give Chip as much love as you can pour on him.

Retirenow, stews were generally cooked for quite a long time because the meat used wasn't very tender and needed long cooking to tenderize it. The trick to keeping a stew from turning into much during a long cooking was to add the veggies after the meat had achieved tenderness.

Trynfindit I always simmer the beef for several hours, so it's good and tender before I add veggies, then cook until they are just tender. Be safe.

Yep, that is the way I cook in my slow cooker. Nothing worse than overdone veggies in a delicious broth with luscious meat..

Retirenow I totally agree. I don't like veggie mush either. Take care and be safe

Another stew I like is Brunswick. Our church members make it at least twice a year for fundraising. It always sells out fast and it is also very yummy.

My mother always made lamb stew but I like beef steww better so that's wht I make. It's so good for the cold weather. We used to have cornbread with it but don't anymore. I can't eat corn at all.
Wishing you happy eating today.
