Been doing puzzles a long time. And to keep me from memorizing puzzle shapes I switch it up and try doing them many different ways. May all be well with those in the storms way.

Try Classic 88 and I don't think you'll be distracted by the shapes. I go by the picture. Or --- in the case of Mystery Puzzles --- not-so-much!

Thank you for the suggestion, I'll try the 88.

Really enjoyed this. It took me almost 5 hours, but for a 1, 008 piece, I guess it's not too bad.

I typically use the 88 wavy cut...so much so that I have now memorized where most of the pieces go by their shapes. Has that happened to anyone else, where you can put most of the puzzle together by the shapes of the pieces rather than following the picture? I think it must mean that I spend too much time doing puzzles!

I have always done the 192 cut, and, yes, I have memorized the cuts too! :-)

I do more of putting the puzzle together by following the shape of the pieces and not the picture, but, I am slow either way! But I still do it to keep the brain working a little bit better. It seems to help.

No, I do that too. Maybe it is time to either rotate pieces or choose another cut. Have you tried skewed?

So do I, follow the shape of the pieces. But with 192 cut and a small display I usually use three times more time than the fast guy "Beavis1957". :-(

Thank you all for your comments, so interesting! I very often do 192 cut but never thought about memorizing the shapes, rac5712! And yes nana24, I have tried skewed and love it! When there's a picture with a lot of horizontal lines in it, I really enjoy doing brick!

Got here late, lol. I too have memorized most of the pieces as well and also go by color coding and shapes.

Wow, that's amazing. I found that with wavy I couldn't help but recognize them since they are very unique. But I had no idea that it seems very common for puzzlers to memorize cuts, amazing.

That's whyI always work in hexagon. It forces me to use only the puzzle picture.

I explained more in the swing set puzzle. I do the edges first and that is the pieces I memorize a lot. Not the whole puzzle. I think most people do the edges first. Am I wrong? Just wondering. I like anything that helps me do it easier.

I do them first also. I look at the photo to see if there are any parts that stand out from the rest and do those next.

I always do the edges first.

Here's what I do abut edges: I separate them out, and put together the top bottom and sides...but don't connect them together. That way there's plenty of clear space to put together other parts of the puzzle or gather piles of colors. Does that sound useful to you, beckydent?

You said you separate them out first. I click on "edges only" so I don't have to look for them. Someone wrote how after they do the edges they click on "shuffle pieces" then click on "grid" and it lines all the pieces up nicely. Then I pull all the pieces out of the frame and put them in the rows with all the others. I try to sort them in groups of same color if the puzzle has it's colors in groups. Sometimes at that point I make the pieces a little smaller to have plenty of room. I understand what what you mean about plenty of clear space. After I saw that someone else did that I tried it and now I do mostly all my puzzles that way. It spreads them all out so you don't have to. You might just click a puzzle that way and see what I mean. Thanks for telling me how you do yours to help me. You could do your frame and keep it apart like you said and still click on "shuffle pieces and "grid". I thought when it said shuffle it I thought it would mix up all the pieces but it doesn't. If you try it let me know what you think.

I just started a puzzle and realized I better tell you after you hit grid and I said I pull all the pieces out of the center that there are a lot pieces hidden in the frame so I click on the frame and they will show up. I have to click on it several times to find them all or just move your frame around a little and you will see them hidden in it.

Brightly colored houses. Waiting for the hurricane. I am prepared as I can be. Hopefully everything will be fine. Have never had winds as high as these. Hope the trees in the back of my house stay upright! All the cat stuff is in the house now and not on the inclosed porch. One of my nieces is coming over today to help me with anything I need to be done that I can't--or shouldn't--do.

My thoughts have been with you all this week, Elijah...Every time I hear a news report about the hurricane, I say a prayer for you. Best of luck weathering the storm!

6:30 pm and very calm and have just had a few sprinkles of rain. However, I know that the worst is yet to come. Cats all in the MAIN part of the house. Relatives have been over this week helping me get ready for the storm. I am READY now. Looks like it will come during the night so might be sleeping thru some of it. I think electricity will probably go off--last time was for 6 days. My niece just called and said it was coming during the day Thursday. Just talked to my neighbor. He said that if I needed help, just let him know.

I have been thinking about you daily also. They talk about Tampa all the time and I hope you don't live around there. Praying about you and others that live there.

What a fun puzzle. Six different colored houses. They have their own style. Windows, flower pots, etc. I'll have to try the wavy cut. I'm sure I have it a long time ago. Thanks bopitextreme for giving me something different to try. I'll do that next.
