I sang the descant on this one each Christmas. I don't miss the extra pressure. Too bad I never got over being nervous.
Wishing you beautiful music.

Pixi, nerves are a part of singing - and sometimes, the more nervous you are, the better you sound. It's like your vocal cords work harder for you. I once heard it said that if you aren't nervous before going on stage, it's because you don't have an important part! You are, and always will be, a woman of music.

Thank you, aknan. So must you be to know all that.

I'm a classically trained singer who no longer sings much - hard to do at work - and also a classically trained pianist. I love music. It soothes the soul, lifts the spirits and enhances your life. And I like most all kinds of music, although I have a hard time appreciating most rap...age, I guess!

My son is a professional musician. He eats, sleeps and bleeds music.

Hi aknan. I'm just a singer. Tried to learn piano but have NO ability. My singing is classical and good but not spectacular although most folks LOVE my Ave Maria (Bach-Gounod) even when I use guitar to accompany myself. I prefer classical, then show, then pre Elvis pop. I listen to some country because my husband likes it but neither of us like what passes for music on the radio, or most jazz. We like a solid melodic line.
Music has gotten me thru some horrific times. Right now I am in a composing stage because the singing seems to have dried up. I like doing solo work, not choral and want to be paid if I'm not choosing what when and where I'm singing which is only fair I think.
I was coloratura. Now I can't reach more than a D above high C consistently although sometimes my high Eb is there now. I wish it would come back. So much of the repertoire requires it. I don't sing opera in public. When I first got my MS I did two recitals at the public library and did sing opera in those. A group of opera singers which I wanted to join warned me not to try to unless I were willing to be a non-singing member. Those singers japped my last recital which cost $200 in fees for my acompanist and she was very reasonably priced. One of my tires was slashed when I was practicing with her. For the most part my efforts have been blocked. My husband thinks I'm paranoid and none of this is really anything but coincidence. If music weren't so wonderful nobody would want to be in it professionally. It is dog eat dog around here.

Sure don't think those opera singers were very friendly! Sounds like a good group to avoid.

Pixi, I've never sung professionally, just as a soloist or in community or church choir groups. I dropped from a soprano to a second soprano in high school, thanks to a sinus infection, but still have a 3 octave+ range. Love to sing, but it's mostly for myself now. On, piano, I Iove most of the classical music, show tunes from the 40s and 50s, popular from the 20s through the late 80s, when things just weren't written for piano.

Shame we can't get together and sing Christmas carols for everyone!

That would have been fun. When I was young I would soak up music like a sponge. Now it takes forever. I fell in love with the operetta song Meine Lippen sie Kussen zu heis. It took almost a year to drum the German into my head. Now I use it as part of my daily practice.

I love to sing! I'm a fair alto and would love to go caroling with ya. Sad no one goes caroling like they use too. I loved it when the church went caroling around to the nursing homes and senior housing.

Beautiful decoration.

We have been sweltering in the heat today - up to 35 deg C I think that is in the high 80's F. Will be so nice to get into the bedroom in the airconditioning tonight. Early to bed I think lol.

"True love comes quietly, without banners or flashing lights. If you hear bells, get your ears checked." Erich Segal

"Teacher says, every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings." unknown

Well I am out of this hot room. God bless all of you. Hugs.

At the end of "It's a Wonderful Life" George Bailey's daughter, Zuzu, says the line when she hears a little bell ring on the Xmas tree.

Thanks for letting me know where the quote came from. It was not on the quote itself. Will have to try to get the movie out of the library as it sounds as though it is a good one. Another hot one today, it is 5am and already 24.8C or 76.4F ewwww. Have some ironing to do which I plan on doing in the next half hour. Then Christmas wrapping to do, also this morning before it gets unbearably hot. Supposed to be a bit cooler tomorrow. Little hugs. (Too hot for big ones lol.)

Aussie, there are actually two of the "It's a Wonderful Life" movies, the original with Jimmy Stewart and a second, many years later, with Margo Thomas playing the main role. I like them both. Pixipixil is right - you will enjoy them!

Hi Pixi and Aknan, looked it up on the library website and it is there so have ordered it (the Jimmy Stewart one). May not get it until after Christmas, as they have two copies both out at the moment until early January. Take care you lovely ladies. Hugs.
