I wonder what flavor the cake itself is. It looks something like a spice or applesauce cake.

Looks really good to eat. However, with that many layers, I sure wouldn't want to have to make it. Not a hard puzzle to do.

Have made cakes similar to this - 6 or 8 layers, filled with chocolate cream and brandied cherries, lots of whipped cream on top - and will never cook like that again! Tasted good, though.
