Buckingham Palace looks great on film. It no doubt looks better in person for those who have seen it. I'd love to see it one day.

I watch Rick Steves all the time..love that show...he takes you all over Europe plus

We love Rick Steves. My hubby and I use his method of only taking a carry-on rather than checking luggage. Works like a dream. It's tricky, though, if traveling overseas as those airlines have weight restrictions as well as size. It's funny when I "test" pack our suitcases to make sure we're within the weight limit. I even bought a mail scale that weighs up to something like 20 pounds. It's worlds easier to board with just your carry on, not check luggage, not have to drag luggage in and out of the car/hotel/etc. We do check our luggage on the return trip home because it's stuffed to the gills with "treasures" we've bought while traveling. Since we don't have to come through customs on our return to the States, we can get to the baggage carousel before most of the rest of the plant. Easy peasy!

"Christopher Robin was there with Alice" :-))

Is that the Alice from Wonderland? If it is where are the roses? I thought they would be painted red.

Pixi, no, it's from a poem, "Buckingham Palace" by Winnie-the-Pooh author A.A.Milne (Winnie-the-Pooh was Christopher Robin's teddy bear), and I got the words a wee bit wrong. I won't quote all six verses, but here's one:-
"They're changing guard at Buckingham Palace,
Christopher Robin went down with Alice.
A face looked out, but it wasn't the King's.
'He's much too busy a-signing things',
Says Alice."

Thanks, Jiggler. I never got into Winnie the Pooh much. The only one I remember is where I think Winnie eats so much honey he is too fat to fit through his front door?

The films were cute, but the books are special magic for me :-)) Actually, in times of great stress, my go-to remedies were the Anne of Green Gables books, and the Winnie-the-Pooh books. Still are, come to that. Who couldn't love the lugubrious Eeyore!!!

My husband loves Anne of Green Gables. He tends to like what I'd classify "girl" things--like he loves Call the Midwife, while I like "guy" things like science shows.

Pixi - sounds like you two are a great combo - yin and yang!

That's us all right although I tend to see us as Jack Sprat and his wife. I'd rather be yin and yang. We once played Trivial Pursuit with my uncle and his wife who are total intellectuals. We beat them because they liked the sme things but whatever I didn't know my husband did and visa versa. So it can work.

Sat on the fence waiting for the changing of the guard and who should sit down beside me but another Aussie - it really is a small world.

"A hug is a great gift — one size fits all, and it's easy to exchange. " Author Unknown

"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone." Audrey Hepburn

God bless all of you. Take care. Hugs.

Aussie loved the quote about hugs especially since Mom died last night. When both your parents are gone where do you call home? Be safe.

Darambo - I am so sorry about your Mom. Both of my parents died within 2 months of each other and even tho I was about 50 years old at the time I felt like an orphan for quite awhile.

Darambo you have my sincere sympathies. Prayers for you. After a child and a spouse a mother is the hardest to lose. She's the one who listens when nobody else cares or has the time.
Prayers for you and all who will miss her.

Darambo, I'm so sorry to hear you lost your mom last night. When my mom passed away (my dad died back in 1986) I went through the same feelings you're having 'when both your parents are gone.' It's an odd feeling. I can't tell you how long I used to think of calling mom on the phone to talk to her, then realizing that wasn't possible. Mom passed in 2002; sometimes it seems so long ago and, at other times, not so long ago. God's strength and peace be with you and yours. Hugs.

Globug, Pixi, and Trynfindit thank you so much for your kind thoughts. I'm 61 and I wasn't prepared for this to hit me so hard. Dad passed in 1996, and I still miss him everyday but Mom will be much harder. Trynfindit thanks for the laugh[I needed it ] it took me the longest time to figure out it was a beaver. Anyways thank you all very much.

I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. May you find strength and comfort in the Lord's loving arms as he embraces you and wipes away your tears. God be with you now and always and one day you will see her once more.

Darambo, let me add my sympathies to those of the others. We never get over the loss of our mothers. I was only 23 when my mother passed away (she was 58), and I still have that fleeting feeling that "I need to call Mom and tell her about that! " I'm 62 now, and I still hear her when I talk to my children and grandchildren, and see her when I look at my hands. She is still so much a part of me. My father passed away 5 years ago (at age 91) and, though I loved him to pieces and was with him for the last 2 months of his life, I don't think about him nearly as much as my mother. I look forward to seeing both of them at our reunion in heaven. (If I can get them to stop dancing with each other long enough!! ) I pray for your comfort during this time of loss. God Bless

There's a wonderful little book called NOBODY'S CHILD by Marie Balter. It's all about processing grief. My parents have been long gone, but now I have a grandchild. Life changes. Recognize that you are an integral part of all that is. Blessings!

Aw, xy, how bittersweet. It's such an odd feeling when both parents have passed on. At first, after my mom died (dad died in 1986), I felt like an orphan. Then I realized I was the "head" of the family. One truly runs the gamut of feelings. Miss them both so much.

It really does feel weird when an adult child loses their parents. My mother passed away 3 years ago and it is strange. My dad passed away 31 years ago. The only parent left is my husband's father and he is going to 83 next month. We expect a phone call from my daughter any day even though she says he is doing good. My best just lost her mother and her dad is not doing good. We as adult children can be so thankful that we are able to see our parents grow old. I feel bad for children who lose their parents when they are very young like my granddaughter who lost her daddy when she was 3 months old. My son should be there to grow old but we will never see it. God bless all those who have lost loved ones way too soon and to those who were blessed to grow old and wise.
