Incredibly vibrant colors for a female bird. Must be common in the tropics.

C'mon Mama, your babies are hungry. Good time for a fast food meal, but not from MacDonald's! Love the colors of this blue-winged bird.

Please pray for my sister, Brenda. She's in the ICU. They don't have a dx yet, but know that there is something wrong with either her liver, gall bladder or both. She was transferred from our local hospital last night after her blood work came back with high liver enzymes. This after I had already taken her to the emergency room 4 times since April only to have them tell us that there was nothing wrong with her and to just go home. I finally had to call our sherriff's dept. and request a welfare check on her before anyone would do anything. The deputy was with her for about 5 minutes before calling for an ambulance. One of the EMTs had been present the first time I called back in April and couldn't believe that they had released her then. Back then she could still walk with assisstance. Now she can't even roll over by herself.

Fropo- Praying for your Sister, I prayed they would find out this time exactly what is wrong and be able to treat it to restore her health. I have been thinking how in turmoil our health system is and you don't get the best care without extravagant insurance coverage. But our God heals and restores and doesn't turn us away if we can't pay CAUSE the price has been paid for us not matter what the cost! He is able and He does listen. Pray she get well soon!

I'll be praying for your sister...sending up a prayer right now that God will guide the doctors and that they will find the problem. Blessings to you and your family, Fropo.

Thank you everyone. They performed an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography on her today. That's a fancy way of saying they stuck a scope with tools down her throat to remove a blockage in one of her gall bladder bile ducts. While they were there they took a look around and took some liver and gall bladder samples for testing. Praise Yaweh! No cancer and no signs of any other liver disease. They removed the blockage and inserted a srent which will have to be removed in a couple of months, but for now her bile is draining and with it all of the toxins that have built up in her body.
Again, thank you everyone for your prayers.

I hope that the doctor that she was going to gets checked out by the authorities. Hopefully the emergency doctor has reported that doctor. Very shoddy treatment as your sister didn't need to get to the point in her health. Hugs!

She saw several doctors. I took her to the ER every time because she was unable to move by herself. She hasn't even seen her PCP, yet. He has been out of town for some additional training. The clinic she usually goes to only has him and a PA on staff, so he wanted to get more certification.

A Beautiful; bird! I was curious to find out if it was a male feeding the babies, so I looked up this kind of bird. This kind is monomorphic, which means that this bird is indistinguishable in it's plumage as to whether it is male or female. Both have the bright coloured feathers Interesting!!

That really is interesting. I'd like to know about who does the feeding also.

I found some more information on this bird:
Feeding four hungry chicks is more than a full time job for both parents and they bring back a lot of food at very regular intervals, often perching on a low branch nearby and checking for threats before diving down into the nest to deliver the meals. At its peak, the return rate for feeding never goes longer than 30 minutes and sometimes both parents return with full mouthfuls of earthworms even on a raining day.

"Being ground nesters, the chicks mature fast taking on faint adult colorations within a few days and are encouraged by both parents to fledge much earlier than high nesting birds.

Thank you for the added information, they sound like birds I'd like to watch for quite a while. Looking at the picture again, I can see they're on the ground, I hadn't even noticed that before I read that they are ground birds.

Did it say where they were from? Canada has blue jays which are bright...but I think that's it.

"The blue-winged pitta (Pitta moluccensis) is a native to Australia and Southeast Asia. It forms a superspecies with three other pittas, the Indian pitta (P. brachyura), the fairy pitta (P. nympha) and the mangrove pitta (P. megarhyncha)."
