This bird is native to the country of Thailand and Southeast Asia, and is a Malayan Banded Pitta bird. Got this info by double clicking on the picture to the left, so I'm not really a brainiac.

Well leave it to me to "DUH"....this bird got me excited! Mom and I use to ID all of out birds together...We saw a lot..my favorite here is the painted bunting so pretty. I had a redheaded woodpecker at the feeder this morning, I miss them. I had a lot of them in our old neighborhood in town...lots of old growth trees, and here I am in the county now and have wood behind me but seldom see my woodies.

Hi CJ: My mom and dad were birders. I put in a feeder a bit over a year ago and get maybe 20 different kinds. One of my favs is the red bellied woodpecker. When we lived along a river I got to see more than double that many kinds. We had both grosbeaks and both flickers plus numerous warblers. I even saw redstarts and once an indigo bunting. I know how you feel about missing your old place.

Pixipixil, Once in my old neighborhood at my friends house I saw a Pleated Woodpecker! I could not believe my eyes. I had her get her glasses and looked up close. I was in a dead Sycamore tree pecking at a hole the size of a coffee cup! I had heard their crys but did not know what was making it. I had bought my Mom a book with great pic's AND audio. So I knew what I had been listening to all that time. Anyway it made my heart go pitter patter :>)

When we lived on the delaware River there was a very tall dead tree in the back of the property and a pileated would come through and peck that tree every fall. I have only seen one once sice moving where I am now. Bluebirds and orioles are also occassional but the grosbeaks, flickers and warblers are only a fond memory.

A cardinal has a nest in an arborvitae under our kitchen window. To turn on the garden hose I have to squeeze between the window and shrub to get to the spigot. Poor mama cardinal has a fit but she hasn't abandoned the nest so maybe your bluebirds are just laying low for a bit.;-)

I decided to do this guy instead of the drabber sandpiper that was the daily. I remember when we were usually neck and neck but you have taken off in to the stratosphere these days and I almost never best your time.
