For your reading pleasure ---- I recommend "The Elephant Whisperer" by Lawrence Anthony ---- and a later one, "An Elephant in my Kitchen" by his wife. Both are out on loan, so I can't be exact, but close.
I have ridden an elephant 3 times, but by far the best ride was the early morning bush ride before breakfast last summer. I had to hang on tight as my old girl pulled up trees and branches as we walked. Then later, we got to pet and feed them treats. What a memory!
They sure seem to an affectionate group. I wonder if they have ways to converse with eachother and what they would talk about. I know there are people who have taught them to paint pictures. Will have to see if anyone has done the kind of IQ tests they do for parrots, octopi and chimps.
