Yes most cooks would know what to do with these spices. I've seen some cooks that don't know the ingredients if they saw them. Watched Worst Cooks of America.
Lol @ Worst Cooks of America! Sometimes I can't tell if much of that is scripted and how much is real. I know that there are people who know almost nothing about cooking or what even basic items are but the show seems a tad exaggerated at times, like they want you to laugh at these people.

I knew a lady who was told to dress a chicken and she did. With baby clothes. But she never even been in a kitchen.

I have watched the show also, it is unbelievable sometimes what they do! It is so funny to me sometimes!

During the challenges where Tyler and Anne make the food. I'd be taking notes on each step. I've even seen Anne tell one guy I'm not going to even taste your dish. I knew why she said that - he picked up a spoon, dipped it into food ate it. Then he dipped the spoon back into the food.

I can understand that too. So many people never consider that, you never know what people are doing to food. That's one way germs are spread.

One woman on Worst Cooks stated that she made her family sick with food poisioning. I watched one guy on a tv show. This restaurant was going to have an inspection from the health dept. before opening. A consultant came to help him. The consultant and the owner went into the kitchen. Right infront of these two a worker used his bare hands to handle raw chicken. Then he immediately dipped his hands in the pickle jar. The consultant opened his mouth and said omg!

I would have had the same reaction as the consultant. Gross. I constantly wash my hands even when I cook for my family.

I'm constantly wash my hands too. Especially when I cook. Then there are times I just want to say Ugh! to hubby asking me if I'm using the same rag to clean the bathroom then washing dishes. I saw something that a woman did - I thought it was quite gross.

Lol @ your husband! You should tell him that if he wants to make sure, that maybe he could take over the cleaning. I use a sponge in the bathroom and even if I don't have one, I just use a wash rag, never a kitchen rag.
Oh I feel a curry coming on! Stick cinnamon, star anise, cardamom, fennel, chili, curry leaves, turmeric, coriander (both fresh and ground) and what looks like Sichuan peppercorns (which is not pepper, but the seed of prickly ash). That big round seed up top could be allspice but I'm not sure. Also looks like some mustard powder there.
Definitely a day for a home-made curry!
