Every year our Christmas celebrations get simpler and we enjoy the season more. As there are only 2 of us now, we spend a lot of time reading aloud together, listening to music, and I cook a nice little meal. This year we're having roast duck rubbed with a curry rub. (Look up Rick Stein's "Tharvu Roast" if you're interested.)
Our gift to each other is time together. DH is 72 now, and I'm 55, so I am loving him hard, for the time we have left together.

Blessings to you both, Orinoco. You're celebrating the season in the right way, too.

Just beautiful orinoco - this year my sister and I are celebrating together. She has a son and daughter and five grandchildren who live on the other side of Brisbane. She had Christmas with them last year and it was all too much for her. I was happy to stay at home as I did last year, but at her suggestion, we are having our own small celebration. It will be nice. Hugs.

And then there's my husband and I. We join a family group and will have anywhere from 18 to 25, depending on who turns up. There are twins of 10 who have joined us since birth. They are the only children in the group. We spend Christmas afternoon with them. It's my husband's best friend's family. And Orinoco, I figure our time will be coming up lol Oh yeah, this young lady is just that! I'm older than her!

Oh, I'd love to have a big family Christmas, but both our families aren't interested in us. His, because they're wealthy and we're not; both mine and his, because I'm a Christian and they're not. Fortunately we'd both rather be together than with anybody else.

Orinoco, I've also got the family not interested. My mother would rather spend the day with her friends. I asked about this year as she's moving into her own place but it was a no. My father was over in the UK. He didn't really contact me much until he got the diagnoses of cancer. Then he called me more. My stepmother, who I wanted to keep in contact with, as her son died before her, has chosen to not keep in contact. So, yes, I'm very happy to spend Christmas with this wonderful family who have basically adopted us as a part of their family. Sending you blessing for this Christmas and into the new year. God bless you and keep you. Some more hugs for you!

I love icing on anything.....those cookies look great and that design is pretty hard to do. I tried to make some pretty cookies a couple of years ago. They tasted great, but they didn't look as attractive as those. My skills aren't what they used to be.

Yeah - That design on the cookies really don't look that hard to do. I haven't done the design - maybe the baker that made these cookies learn how to do it. I've watched one cook on Foodnetwork - the cook did something and he then had to go up to a well known chef - the chef wouldn't even taste his food. I knew why - the cook put a spoon into the food and tasted it. He then put the spoon back into the food into the food.

That's a definite no-no in the foodie world. Unhygienic....

The cookies look perfect and delicious. Even though my daughter is an adult, I want to make her a special box of Christmas cookies. We are still estranged from family members. Since there is "no room at the inn" for us during this time I would much rather it be peaceful than filled with strife. That's not what family is about. Peace and Joy to everyone : )

I appreciate that someone makes cookies like these. I make drop cookies! Never had the time to fuss. Now that I have the time, I don't have the impetus!
