It is quite beautiful, like you Aussie I have never seen the northern lights, but would love to see it. When we lived in Redding, California one evening I went out front to talk to my sister while she smoked and we looked up in the sky and there was a red light looked like this, we called the rest of the family out to see it. The next day the newspaper had an article about it. It was some sort of lights related to the northern lights, never did understand it totally, but sure was pretty. Be safe all.

I remember as a child of 11-12 years old we used to see the Northern Lights sometimes in the winter. My stepdad was a ham radio operator and I remember that when we could see the Northern Lights, he could pick up ham radio operators from Australia. Very cool!

Nborchardt where did you live when you could see the lights? I remember when we were young may 6 or 7 there was a ham operator close to us and when he was broadcasting he would sometimes come through on the tv, my Dad would to get so irritated but I loved to listen to the chatter. You are right it was very cool!!! Be safe.

Hi folks, rested but a bit sore this morning. Been having problems with vertigo and got up and moved a bit too quickly last night and over I went. Hit a side table and another piece of furniture on the way down and everything just went everywhere. Good way to have a clean up, but not particularly the way I like to do it lol. Just have to slow down and remember I am no longer 21, though my brain thinks so lol. Hugs to all.

Aussie, my Dad and I fall down all the time. Dad has never been seriously hurt. I snapped a leg back in 1995. This is just one of my peculiarities. Another is I have no sense of direction and get lost easily. Some people go the wrong way at an intersection and have to backtrack a few miles. I have twice been in the wrong country. I have a GPS now and it helps tremendously. Doesn't help with falling down, though!

I know what you mean abacii. My problem is that I have vertigo, so getting up is a problem and just have to take things slowly. Still have a few sore spots and a nasty bruise plus for some reason one side of my neck seems to be swollen. They say getting old is not for whimps and I am getting whimpier (lol) each day. Hugs.

I realize that living where I do - and, having spent 11 years in 'the north' - the I sometimes failed to realize how fortunate we are to see the Aurora Borealis regularly. Sometimes they're more of a pale white-ish green, and sometimes they're coloured. There is a legend that says that if you whistle, they will change. But don't do it too much, or they will come down and take you away!
