I use to play, but haven't for years, okay, decades! I had the same chess partner for several years, then I moved to another State. I miss him and the game.

I can play chess but, unfortunately, mostly play defensively. Never played cribbage but my maternal grandmother and I used to love to play canasta together.

When I was a child, my mother and grandmother started a "guest home" -- a home for folks over 65, kind of like assisted living these days. I grew up around dozens of grandmas and grandpas, and I was always playing card games with them. How my small hands could shuffle for canasta was a wonder to some of them. We also played Hi-Low Jack, and cribbage and poker for toothpicks. I still love to play cribbage but can only do so with the Hoyle Game Suite on my computer.

Here's a joke I ran across today. Thought I'd share it. Made me chuckle:

A cowboy appeared before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. "Have you ever done anything of particular merit? " St. Peter asked.

"Well, I can think of one thing, " the cowboy offered. "On a trip to the Black Hills out in South Dakota, I came upon a gang of bikers who were threatening a young woman. I directed them to leave her alone, but they wouldn't listen. So, I approached the largest and most tattooed biker and smacked him in the face, kicked his bike over, ripped out his nose ring, and threw it on the ground. I yelled, 'Now, back off or I'll whale the livin' tar outta all of ya! '"

St. Peter was impressed and asked, "When did this happen? "

"Couple of minutes ago."

Try the online games, rahrah. There is much less stress involved, and quite a large choice of apps and game sites.

Retirenow14, do you play?

No, I am not that good at seeing moves that need to be made a few ahead. And I am not in the slightest bit competitive. I even purposely do worse in games if I play against someone who doesn't do as well. No sense crushing their self esteem. My brother plays, though. He had an electronic chess game that used real pieces back in the mid 70's! Back then there was no internet, so this was the best practice method to be found.

I'm not all that good either, my chess partner use to let me win to boost my confidence until I became a better player, then he made me work hard for the win! lol I painted a ceramic chess set years ago, and he turned a wooden cigar box into a game box for me, with dividers. It was lined with felt, and we used felt between the pieces. Good memories.

Neat memories, rahrah. As people age, old memories are often much more appealing than new occurrences.

I know I asked for prayers before but I am asking again. My daughter's doctor recommended she get a biopsy of her liver. Something is showing from the MRI she just had. Thank you aknan for posting that the liver can regenerate itself. She just had one surgery and I am afraid if she needs another one. She is only in her early twenties. Please pray. My daughter is and always will be the love of my life.

Leia, my nephew had surgeries on his liver, beginning in his early 20s. Every surgery brought more adhesions, which resulted in more surgeries, etc. It all started with a shadow on his liver. He is fine now for many years, with a healthy liver that is full size. Your daughter is in my prayers.

Thank you so much for your concern. It was recommended that we get a liver specialist to look at the MRI results before she gets a biopsy. That appointment is being scheduled out of town. So we are hoping and praying the specialist will give us positive feedback.

I used to play chess as a youngster - my brother would play with me. He'd say oh I knew you were going to make that move. I have you right where I want. I can beat you in 5 moves. I replied Oh no way yep then said check and then check mate. When I didn't believe him he said yeah try and get out of the move.

That's quite a chest for holding the pieces. Ours just came tumbled together in a box with a sliding lid. I saw the most wonderful set at the NYS Fair. The pieces were cowboys and Indians.

Aussie, one of my craft/sewing tutorial sites (free patterns and tutorials) so-sew-easy.com had a blog about Australia Day today. Of course it made me think of you. I guess that was yesterday there. Hope you had a wonderful day! God bless you and many hugs.
