At the zoo here in Kansas City, they allow over a dozen red kangaroos to just hop around freely in parts of the zoo. It's kind of strange to be walking along and suddenly, there's a kangaroo looking at you from a few yards away.

Kansas City, Kansas or Missouri?

Missouri. The zoo here is in southeast Kansas City, MO - I think it's now about 240 acres and expanding even more.

Will have to mention this to my son, he has been working out of KC for the last couple years and may be there for another year...he watches the squirrels & rabbits that are in the field at the place he is staying. He gets bored on the weekends and might enjoy going to the zoo!

There's quite a bit of wildlife here. I live in midtown and a nearby park has had white tail deer, a wild turkey, and many other animals. My former apartment was often visited by raccoons and opossums. The zoo has had a lot of recent additions, a pretty nice polar bear habitat and a new penguin exhibit.

Thanks, will let him know he is staying in Overland Park, but has no trouble getting around.
He has taken is kids & nieces to the zoo here, I don't think he got to the one in San Diego when he was working out of there.

My father was an architect/planner for the new zoo in MN. They had a zoo but the owners of the new zoo wanted a zoo where the animals could roam free in a more natural habitat enclosure. I was on tv when I was little because they were talking about this new zoo.

Hi Barbaranne. I'm new to posting, but I've been doing these puzzles and reading others' postings for a couple years. I think I'll fit right in with this group! I'll give you all my history some other time, but for right now...I'm having surgery on Tuesday also. I NEED this surgery, but I'm a little (or a lot) scared for many reasons that I won't go into right now. (I tend to ramble when I get into details! ) I'm asking for prayers that this surgery does what it's supposed to do and that there are no complications along the way.
Barbaranne, I'll pray for your surgery and you can pray for mine! Thank you all for your prayers, and for just being there. I feel like you're all my friends already...I've just kept my mouth (or keyboard! ) shut for a long time! God bless, Joyce

Babaranne, you have our prayers that your surgery goes well as God guides your doctors, your caregivers and you. Haven't heard from you in a while; you are in the thoughts of many of us.
I'm off to take my hubby to his doctor. He's got so much wrong with his back and now he can hardly walk. Surgery coming up. Prayers would be very much appreciated.

Welcome Joyce, and welcome back Barbaranne, it was a relief to hear from you again a few puzzles ago after not hearing from you for so long. I had surgery on my carotid artery a few weeks ago, was given dire warnings by the surgeons of death or massive stroke during op, but the prayers from this website certainly helped and now I can return the favour and pray for both of you and your surgeons. Just remember to take it easy afterwards and not do more than is comfortable, Heavenly father gave us feelings of pain and discomfort to warn us that things are about to go wrong if we don't heed His warnings.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome and the prayers! Like Megat, I have a few worries about this particular surgery and I hope mine comes out as well as hers did. I had surgery last year, in my neck, and there were complications. It left me disabled with severe pain and nearly paralyzed. Now my surgeon has located another area on my lower spine that needs the same surgery as my neck. (Spinal Stenosis) He claims that this surgery will relieve most of my pain, then I can resume physical therapy to regain use of my legs. I'm just scared that there might be even more complications with this surgery...I'm a little gun-shy now! I need positive prayers that I can get my life back, or at least make it livable! I'll let you all know how things come out!

Thanks so much Santaclaus...I have always wanted to tell you that my husband is Santa too! He has a natural white beard and he's quite round also. He plays Santa for friends, family, neighbors, and for our church kids every Christmas (just for the fun of it - not his occupation). He's a wonderful man and he takes very good care of me even though he struggles with a lot of pain himself. (We must be getting old! )
By the way, the surgery is for me, Joyce.

I just realized that Santaclaus was addressing Trynfindit instead of me...sorry about that! Anyway, my prayers go out to Trynfindit and her hubby. Back problems are NO fun! My hubby and I keep reminding each other that "Gettin' old ain't for sissies! " May God lead your doctors to find what is causing all the problems and be able to fix it in the least painful option. God Bless!

Hello Joyce my prayers go to all and I agree with you about getting older we all seem to get these aches and pains in places we did not know we had, when we was younger we would have bounced back and laugh them off, no sometimes we forget
we are not as young as we were, but that is life and we just have to get on with it.My blessings are on there way to you and just remember every cloud has a silver lining. L O L Santa.

Thanks pixi. And, JoyceRogers, how 'bout we pray for you and you for us. My hubby has spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, has had 1 spinal fusion, and, worst of all, he has a somewhat rare condition called MHE (Hereditary multiple exostoses) - he grows bone in places it REALLY shouldn't be (like on his spine) that dig into nerves perilously close to his spinal cord. It's one of those bone growths that his upcoming surgery will be on - one of the spinal discs has started to calcify.

May 19, 2014
Wow, Tyrnfindit. That MHE sounds horrendous. I am so sorry your husband is suffering so. I will keep him in my prayers for a cure.

May 31, 2014
Trynfindit..Sounds like your husband was cut from the same cloth as my hubby & I. I had never heard of MHE, but I grow bones and spurs in very unlikely places! The one spur in my neck stuck INTO the spinal cord, and when they pulled it out, it left me disabled. Now I have one the size of a small fist on the joint of the clavicle and sternum, and no doctor will even THINK about removing it because there is a major vein going right through it and straight to the heart. So I live feeling like I've been "clothes-lined" all the time. Oh bother! But sooner or later we'll all be whole again...the "Great Physician" is looking out for all of us!
trynfindit
May 31, 2014
JoyceRogers, it sounds as though you do have MHE. I understand what you're talking about where the bone growth has a major vein going through it - my hubby's spinal fusion has become completely wrapped with bone and has filled with bone. The doctors can't operate to remove it because the nerve bundles are encased in the bone. His next surgery date is on June 10th to try and fix the calcification on the vertebral disc. And, yes, the Great Physician is our salvation.

Dear Trynfindit and JoyceRogers...how can I ever find a way to tell you how sad this makes me. Such a horrible disease! It reminds me of the Asian fellow who had growths of callus encase his feet and hands turning him tree-like. A very expensive operation of many hours reduced it until he had the use of them but it all grew right back. I wonderif the conditions ar related. You have my sympathy and prayers

Thanks pixi. MHE is a rare bone disease affecting 1 in 50, 000 people. Imagine finding two other people on this web site who probably have the same MHE disease as my hubby.
