Yup...I remember gumballs and I liked them a lot. My teeth would ache today if I even look at one. Ha Ha.

Fun puzzle of gumballs I've done before. Still a challenge.

Wow..what happened to penny gumballs? Maybe I'm imagining that they cost that in my youth. We used to get into a movie matinee for 10 cents. As Archie and Edith Bunker used to sing "Those were the days"!

Around here the gumballs are bigger and cost a quarter. Remember when they had Chicklets and you got a whole handful for a penny? We have a store here where you can still buy Mary Janes, Squirrels, wax soda bottles and all that old fashioned penny candy. But it isn't a penny any more. I still love Jujubes.

We have a store similar here in Oregon too, but not as extensive as yours. By the way, I was born and raised in Michigan and left at the age of 19 for California. My best friend still lives in MI and I get back every 10 years or so to see her, but otherwise do not miss it.

Micki, so glad to hear from you. Now we have 3 puzzlers from Oregon. I have lived in Michigan all of my life and I love it here. We have a lot of wide open areas up north and so much to see and do here in the southeast. What city did you live in?

Annie...(my Mom's name too)...My partner Rob and I live in Grants Pass (a little town North of Medford) and we moved here from Calif. in 2003. When I was growing up in Mich. I lived in Detroit until the age of 15 and then moved to Redford and went to High School there (its not to far from Farmington). Keep in touch Annie1749 and have a great Oregon day!

I grew up in Detroit too. My husband had an Aunt and I have a friend who lived in Redford, both on Delaware Street. What grade school did you attend?

Annie1749...I went to a Catholic grade school called Guardian Angels fror 8 years and then went to Denby High for my 9th grade and as I said earlier, went to Redford for my 10th, 11th and 12th. Wouldn't it be amazing if we knew each other or even passed by on the street? Stranger things have happened! What street or area did you live around growing up?

Hi Micki, I just wanted to let you know that you were on the east side of Detroit and I was on the west side. I went to St. Leo's from the 1st grade through the 12th. There was no kindergarten in Catholic schools back then. I had a friend who went to Guardian Angel for awhile. Her name was Pat Dunaj. What year did you graduate from Redford?

I actually got my diploma from Redford Union High in 1958. I didn't attend graduation with my senior class because of an illness and I was also lacking one credit, but did, as I said, get my diploma later after taking a summer class. I apologize for not making the distinction between Redford High and Redford Union High early on. Anyway, so glad to know someone from my home town, even though we lived on opposite sides. When I was 8 or 9 yrs. old, I still remember riding the streecar down Gratiot Avenue. Also, I remember that I made my First Holy Communion at Assumption Grotto Church. Any great memories from you??

Sorry for the delay, I just found your reply this morning. Being from the west side it seemed like a foreign country when we ventured to the east side. I had 2 great aunts that lived there. I'm a bit younger that you. I graduated in 1967, just a month before the Detroit riots. That was a horrible time. We used to go to Belle Isle a lot during the summer and of course Boblo Island and the Detroit Zoo. It is also good hearing from you.

Same here Annie...glad for your reply and memories of the Zoo, Boblo and Belle Isle. My older brother and I used to ice skate in the winter on Belle Isle. I had a happy childhood, and I worrry that my grandchildren will experience a different world than what I grew up in. Enough of the glum....have a great day and thanks.

Times were so much slower and happier back then. I too had a wonderful childhood. We didn't need all of the expensive entertainment kids have today. Give us a jump rope or a piece of chalk for hop scotch and we could play for hours. I used to love playing Cats-in-the-cradle, which we called "string". We did have board games that we played as a family. I still love games. In fact my husband and I play "Skip-Bo" whenever we get a chance. Wishing you a happy weekend.

Hi Annie...I remember fondly playing with cut-outs as a young girl. Also the neighborhood kids would play red light, green light and all the parents would call their kids in at dusk. No all day TV for us. You were right, we played outside all day or rode our bikes. People today who are tied to their phones, make me so angry. No one talks over dinner these days they're so busy texting. My guy and I like to play Uno and Skip-Bo too, as we watch very little TV. We also read a lot (I work for a library). Wahoo!! Have youself a great day!

Hi Micki, I was just reading some of my old responses and came across yours and thought I'd say hi. How are you doing today? How are things in Oregon? The weather here has turned chilly. Early in the week it was in the low 80's. We had quite a rain storm on Wednesday and it turned cold. It is only 55 right now. But at least the sun is shining. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Take care of yourself.....Annie

Hi my new puzzle pal. I have an old school chum that lives in Harrison Township, Mi. and she keeps me informed about the weather. We complain to each other...either too hot or too cold. Thank goodness though, Oregon gets little to no humidity. Still hot here, in the 90's. Looking forward to fall, so pretty for a while. Hate it when the leaves are all off. Too dismal looking. Anyway, Annie, always glad to hear from you. Take care too!!!

Wow, Harrison Township is just down the road from me. I have friends there also. I hope you have a good weekend and try to stay cool. It isn't hard to do here seeing it is only 56 degrees at 1:22 in the afternoon.
