Good morning all my fellow puzzlers. What a beautiful lily. Oh how I wish I had thought about gardening when we bought our house. Our growing season is so short and there is not a month that goes by that at least one night goes below freezing, Does not make for easy gardening, but I do love it here, snow and all. Speaking of snow when our first real snowstorm was over, it only left about 6 inches. You all be safe.

Wouldn't like to live where you are, darambo. Cold is NOT my thing although I must admit I love to see new fallen snow when it first coats the tree branches. I also love seeing photos of the ice floes in Antarctica but you couldn't get me down there with a gun to my head.

That's what our first snowfall was. The only surprise was that it was the earliest that we have ever had that much snow.....yippee.......

I grew up near Boston; I've seen enough snow to last a life-time. But....I'm in Northwest Missouri, 1953-present, and we have our share of snow here, too. Not bad, being retired and not having to drive in it every morning to work.

Must be gorgeous there. I lived in the mountains for a few years--in the snow belt of the Catskills--and loved it. But you are right about the short growing season. Funny thing is, where we were we got really great veggies from the garden. Where I am now nothing edible likes it. Things start off okay then get mold or some other disease or infestation. It's like being at the epicenter of every disease and bug that can affect edible plants.( Except for raspberies. They did okay.)

Abacii, "here" is Northern Illinois, about 6 miles from the southern border of Wisconsin.

I did some work in Oregon. Beautiful country there.

I've worked in Chicago and spent some time in Buffalo Grove. That whole region is being turned into bedroom communities.

Abacii originally I'm from silicon valley in California and it is one huge community from San Francisco to Morgan Hill, all bedroom communities. I didn't think I would ever leave San Jose..my home town, but it got even too, too big for me. We moved to Redding, then to Oregon. The small town we live in now has more than doubled since we moved here, don't like it!! Be safe.

Chicago has become a city I don't even like to visit anymore. I live in a very small community near the Wisconsin border. We have to go into Rockford, the nearest large city, to do shopping. It has taken me a long time to get used to the quiet out here!

Nborchardt we also drive into Bend to do any shopping, we have a grocery store here but the prices are high. It is cheaper to drive 75 miles round trip than to shop here. I got used to the quiet in stages, as we went north over a few years and we went to smaller and smaller towns. Love it now just wish people would stop moving here. Be safe.

I like the quiet now, but have never gotten used to no street lights. I have "trained" my husband to lock the doors at night. He was perfectly content to leave them unlocked. I cannot sleep with doors unlocked and I am blessed with a husband, who even though he can't understand that, he does it so I feel more safe. Blessings!

Nborchardt it really gets dark doesn't it!!! We put up motion sensor lights and a normal porch light also. We had to, we have bears, lots of big coyotes and mountain lions and we want to know when they are around so we can keep the dogs inside. It's not as quiet as it used to be...unfortunately. In this day and age I always keep the doors locked, you just don't know and you can't be too safe.

Amen to that darambo. We don't have animal predators around, except maybe some coyotes, but the human predators scare me more!

Nborchardt I do believe you are right about the human predators...I know they scare me more also, that's the reason I keep the front door locked. Be safe

Abacii I also miss the sidewalks. It's not easy to walk with my cane on the uneven unpaved sides of the road. Be safe.

Such a pretty flower. I ha yellow lilies that bloom every year. Love the fragrance. Smells so good every time I go out when they are in bloom. I just wish they would last longer. They bloom about a week and then the petals fall off

That's because you have more to give...and know it.

It was a little hard. Your quote is so true elijah 13. It really fits in with the Christmas season. I tried to teach my kids it is better to give than receive. Unfortunately, my granddaughters are not taught that. They would rather receive than give. They are just so spoiled. The more expensive, the better, is their thinking.

It takes time and maturity, mamg. They'll come around more by good example than exhortation I think.
