This is one of my favorite places in this country. It is beautiful by day and by night --- so be sure to see it twice. And go to one of the programs they offer.
Saw it with my folks when I was 16. We drove cross country from LI, NY to Portland OR. I was much more impressed with the Badlands of SD and Yellowstone. Oh I fell in love with that place. When we got to OR we saw Multnomah Falls and the seashore (BRRRRR) but nothing was as beautiful as Yellowstone. I hardly remember Mt. Rushmore. While it's surely amazing it isn't beautiful.
Beautiful area, but blighted by crass commercialism. We have a picture of Washington's face lit at night through a tunnel. Have not seen the nearby Crazy Horse monument.
