Years ago, when I could afford to travel, I rode the train from Cologne, Germany to Amsterdam, stayed there for 2 or 3 days, then rode the train through Rotterdam to Brussels - I don't remember seeing a single windmill that entire trip. Of course, we could have gone by some when I wasn't looking out the window.

Hi Nudnik. When I was quite small my Mother used to sing a little song to us that I have never been able to find since, and I am nearly 85 now!
It started
"Little wooden shoes going clop, clop, clop; Little wooden shoes going clop, clop clop". There was more to it, but that's all I remember. Have you ever hear of it?

Jimlahar, I think I've found your song. It's called, appropriately, "Wooden Shoes" and is from the 'Every day is fun in a Little Red Schoolhouse' album. Please let me know if this is the song you were looking for. You can listen to the song at

You are right. I found it difficult to walk on them so I made a compromise and now they are hanging in the garden with some plants in them. Painted them different colours and it looks good.
Really this is a beautiful sight!!!! never been to Holland but my friends went there but all the time they were there it rained cats and dogs and they missed a lot of these display!!!
have a good sunday all my friends
Jajac, I've never been to Holland either but there is a Holland in Western Michigan that is just as beautiful as this picture. It has been a quite a few years since I was there but You could go inside the windmill. They also have a wooden shoe factory that was very interesting. The dancers wore multi-layers of wet sox to keep their wooden shoes on when they danced. Any other puzzlers been there?
