I never realized the top of their head looks rather flat.

I'm an animal lover so I love all animals...but the cheetah probably is one of my top favorites. I love watching them run in slow motion on tv.

Love these animals. Out of all the cats, the cheetah may not be the most impressive (that would absolutely be the male lion) but they are definitely special. It should also be noted that they are not feline or canine, but in a class entirely of their own. Amazing animals...and they purr louder than any other "kitty".

Thanks for the info. I always thought the cheetah was a big cat, like a lion or tiger. Impressive animal that I would prefer not to get up close and personal with...

They are cats (feline) but their claws are non retractable (canine)..so basically just "awesomely" special. The black lines on their face are said to be tear tracks and again, the only animal with them. Coming from South Africa I have had the pleasure of seeing, and interacting, with them up close. Truly stunning creatures.

You are a blessed person. Few people can get that close to wild animals. I'll bet the cubs are adorable. When housecats get older, they loose their ability to retract their claws quickly. My pet cats are all old, and I must be patient with them, as they do not have control over their claws, as in their earlier years.

The cheetah seems contented. My allergist considers them HIS favorite creature.

Beautiful! How could anyone even want to kill it for a coat?

God bless you all.

I certainly could understand early man or native peoples seeking the coat for warmth. However, this practice should be illegal for modern people. I believe that no one should kill a living thing unless they are going to eat it...and really need the food. That is what pioneers did.

Nice little putty tat ;)

"The more I think about it, the more there is to be said for the sloth. He sleeps fifteen to eighteen hours a day and is known to have taken forty-eight days to travel four miles. He hangs in the trees after he's dead. But he lives longer than the cheetah." Erma Bombeck

"It's not about finding ways to avoid God's judgment and feeling like a failure if you don't do everything perfectly. It's about fully experiencing God's love and letting it perfect you. It's not about being somebody you are not. It's about becoming who you really are." Stormie Omartian

God bless you all and keep you protected. Hugs.

Good quote form Omartian. Too easy to get hung up on past failures. Very forward-looking and hopeful.

I love Erma Bombeck! My mother and I used to share her columns and books and laugh a lot! That felt good, and I've missed that...My favorite quote (paraphrased because I can't remember the whole thing) was, "Dear Lord, if it be your will, please let me see my hipbones again before I die! "
God Bless, Aussie...you're in my prayers...

I love Stormie Omartian. That quote sounds like something I needed to hear. I am not sure where I am going or what the road I am on is leading me. I pray what I am doing is for serving the Lord and not just for me.

Hi mamag. Sometimes we are serving God without even knowing it. What counts is that we want to do it and He finds a way even when He has to work around our normal inhibitions.

I remember seeing a brief video clip about a cheetah sanctuary - when they feed them, they drag large amounts of meat behind a truck that drives by the cheetahs at around 40 mph (65 km/h) and the cheetahs chase after the truck. That way, they get some exercise.
