This kind of close-up is fine. Not the real live kind!

What a majestic animal - do white tigers occur randomly or are they bred for circuses and similar things?

Both, I believe.

It's a mutation that actually doesn't do the tiger any favours. Especially in the wild because they don't have the normal camouflage colouring.

I believe they used to be referred to as Siberian Tigers. As a kid I always assumed that they were native to the colder areas of the Soviet Union. But Wikipedia would answer your question.

I did do some research on white tigers. They are either Bengal or Siberian tigers. Although it's not easy from this angle, this tiger has a pink nose. For American zoos, it's against their policy to try breading these.

Jamie I had to laugh when I read a typo you made. I promise I'm not making fun of you but when I read about "breading" a tiger I got a good chuckle out of it. I know I wouldn't want to try and bread a tiger. :)

LOL - d'oh! American zoos definitely don't want zoos breading (or breeding) white tigers.

The tigers probably wouldn't mind the bread crumbs but dunking them in the egg mixture could get messy.
