Last train ride was in Peru, going up to see Machu Picchu! However, our seats were not like these!

Sure don't look like the seats trains had back in the 1940's. The backs bench seats reversed so one could ride two ways.

Are you a NYer? That sounds like the old cane seats on the Brooklyn subway.

When I left Boston for the USMC, I had a very long train ride to S.C. It was long enough to give me time to think and wonder if I was doing the right thing. But, in hindsight, it sure WAS. I've had a wonderful life with 50 yrs and 1 day with the love of my life.

My husband and I had a few rides on steam trains out of Steamtown in Pennsylvania. It was neat experiencing using the transportation that my older relatives and ancestors relied upon. The trains that operated after them did have seats that could be adjusted to face either way. I believe that this was to accommodate families who used to want to spend time together.

If you notice, the seats at the right edge of the photo are facing the other way, so maybe these can be flipped also.

We looked into possibly moving to Springfield but we are still in the same house we've had for 25 years in upstate NY. My sister-in-law lived in St. Louis for a few years but she left to live near her sister in FL. WE just got back fron visiting with them --my first itme to FL. Didn't like it there at all.

This isn't anything to do with trains, but just wanted to tell everyone I am now a published author. got my books today so now I have to start selling. It is a children's book about a preteen falling into a magic mirror and all the excitement she find there. Story's I told my granddaughter until she was to old then decided other children might like them also. wish me luck everyone

Best of luck I am proud of you
sure would like to read your book
my niece made little bears about 4 or 5 inches tall
she made little stories about them each one was different
we all tried to get her to write them down and make a book
but she wouldn't do it

Used this to refresh my memory, using the map cut. Not as easy as I thought! But elementary school was a loooong time ago. Don't ask me about the capitals, now!

I used to have all the states and their capitals memorized. Think I'll see how many I can remember now. I have memorized all the countries in Africa and Europe in the last 2 years but not any capitals. Just remembering the countries is hard enough!

Hi pixipixil. This is my first time posting, but I've been reading the messages for awhile. When I was younger, I had a board game that had the USA map on it, with little whole where the State and capitals were listed. There was an electric plug in that you put in one of them, then where you thought they belonged, then it would light up when you got it right. I was fascinated, so learned quickly. I never could remember the New England States tho! lol I now have 2 granddaughters in middle school and high school, I think I'll list the States and Capitals and quiz them, it will help me remember too.

Thank you for the welcome, darambo. I'm in Tucson, AZ, where the weather is gorgeous this time of year. That's what gets us through those dreadful summers, just knowing the coolness is on the way. Yes, I've been finding out that this is a group of people that I'd be proud to be associated with.

Hi rahrah. Welcome to the site. My parents lived in Sierra Vista for 29 years until they died. They are buried in Phoenix in the Veteran's cemetery. My brother lives near Phoenix so I have been to AZ often but usually in the summer. The one time we went there at Christmas it snowed.
I remember having a game like that but I don't think it was for the US map. It had 2 terminals you had to place in boxes with answers to questions and the light above the board would light when you got it. There were several pages of questions.
Keep posting. it's great having you join us.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! pixi, I have lived in Phoenix before, and it's a little hotter than Tucson, where we get a bit more rain. Beana, I can tell you all are a nice bunch of sharp brains! lol Your hearts are pretty terrific, too
