Why shame about using jar sauce. Who said it was a must to make your own sauce. Look into your upbringing then let it go. We all seem to agree that jar sauce is fine.

Count me in too, I always use sauce from a jar. Actually, I sometimes use a flavor packet and tomato paste and sauce too but it's still not homemade.

I used to make homemade, but no longer. it is only the two of us and a jar makes more sense. I don't eat much pasta any more. too much flour.

Now can you find some kind of pasta that just need heating, no boiling water...trying to give up cooking, but have not given up eating!

CatLadyOKC, you may be able to get that from a restaurant. Some places like maybe Italian restaurants may let you buy already cooked pasta. Plus, you can find anything online these days. I'm not suggesting buying the pasta online but doing a search and type in the search line, "places to buy already cooked pasta" or something like that and you may find some helpful links.

Thanks for the info...little afraid of the resturant, I have to watch my salt intake, use about 1/2 as called for it at all, I don't really enjoy most resturant food anymore...all I can taste is the salt. But will check this out. I do have a salt shaker that all of the rest of the family uses when I cook, but I only use pepper, also check the back of everything I buy at the grocery for it's salt content, can't stand to eat a potato chip...but my blood pressure is doing just fine now.

CatLadyOKC - Good to hear that your bp is doing good. Have you tried sea salt? Or does that give you trouble too?

When I use salt in any thing it is sea salt, but it is still sodium try to keep my daily intake 1200mgs or below - per my doctor. My hubby has very low blood pressure our doctor told him to use the salt shaker, sports drink and eat potato chips if he wanted too. Celery has a natural salt & I try to use it in some things...just small amounts.

I used to make my own sauce, but, it was usually an all day affair. When I made pasta sauce or chili, it seemed like the longer all the ingredients could mix together, the better the product tasted.

Now, I'll take a jar and perhaps add some things - peppers, mushrooms, onions, maybe some meat - hamburger, ground turkey, or Italian sausage.

Unfortunately, any more, I can't stand at the stove for that long. One trick if you have problems cooking - buy pre-cut fresh veggies from a grocery store's salad bar. I'll often do that for tuna and chicken salad too.

I cook sometimes, but we also get a number of items from the salad bar at the grocery for summer, don't spend much time in the kitchen in the summer. We are happy with quick and easy cool items in the summer or something that heated in the micro.

CatLady, our groceries up here sell all types of fresh pre-made foods, including pastas, that all you need to do before eating is heat them up. When I'm running late - or running out of ideas - I do a quick tour of them and almost always come home with something my Dearly Beloved will enjoy. The salt content doesn't seem that high, either.

CatLadyOKC:

Many sauces and pastas come in a package. It's in all the supermarkets. Just ask the staff. Get a microwave this eliminates most cooking. Can't remember when I cooked from scratch. Live alone why bother?
Not to my choosing, fate.

Fixed this same salad the other night, and guess what...all from a package mix. Pasta goes in boiling water, add vegetable oil to seasoning packet and mix together. Add fresh tomatoes and avocados and...whallah...dinner. Very good too!
