Lightning is very cool to watch, as long as you are under cover. It is amazing how fast it moves, though. I had some move past my head when I was sitting under my wooden carport while sitting in an old folding chair. Even God didn't want me that day.

Wow!! What a great shot. I always wonder if photographers wait for these shots or are they just lucky enough to have captured these photos by accident. Love to watch lightening, as long as I'm safe. Aussie I'm so happy to see you are back, hope your holiday was fun but not too eventful. You were missed " sis ", seemed like you were gone a long time.Hope your mind is more relaxed so you can get on with your business without too much stress. Once again glad you're back and everyone be safe.

I once knew a lightening stalker! In fact I have 2 of his pictures. One was a double exposure with a black cat as the double exposure with lightening in the background.

Darambo, I've caught lightning strikes by pure luck and also by waiting to catch a strike with my hand on the remote shutter cord. I really believe it's a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

Saw a person who had a special attachment that he used to catch the picture. It did it automatically.

We have a tripod for our 35mm I guess I should look into some sort of auto flash type device. We usually get plenty of lightening sure would like to catch some on film. Akan we also have a remote shutter cord do you think that would be better? You all stay safe and warm.

The remote cord, to me, is easier than pushing the button on the camera - and the longer cords let you stay dry in the car! Also, having the camera on a tripod and using the remote release cuts down on any unintentional movement. The cords are pretty inexpensive, too. Good luck! I love lightning. For years, it was the only thing I could see in the night sky if I wasn't wearing glasses/contacts. Other than the moon, of course.

Some might think this is pretty but in reality it causes millions of dollars in damages to forests and property.

I agree with you, had lightening hit in our backyard had to replace lots of appliances & TV's in the house. We also had all the meters on the house. At least it didn't hit the house directly so we did not have a fire in the house. We are in a area that all the unities' are under ground.

Yes, and not only to property (damage). Some people posted pictures of the incoming storm here and there were people in the water!!! Wow they must have a death wish as water attracts lightening. An aunty of mine was running her kitchen tap to do her dishes and the lightening struck the water. She never washed dishes in a storm again!!! Hugs.
