My best birthday present really wasn't a present--My "unfriendly" neighbors next door FINALLY cut the bushes between our houses. It was starting to come over onto my property. However, now it is all piled up by his fence. Will see how long it takes to get that moved to the street for pick-up. They have lived there about 3 years and never had cut those bushes!

We were in same situations 3 months ago. They did not trim the trees & bushes which had came over the wall between our houses! Every single day we had to clean our backyard, because all the tree brunches were coming over our house & leaves were everywhere! Finally we sent our gardener to their door!!! Then they decided to trim all those mess from our property!!!! YAY....

I think my unfriendly neighbor was working in his fenced yard this morning. Still has some things outside of his fence to put by the street to be picked up. Will see how long that takes. Glad you got your problem solved--at least for a while.

I understand you both...the house on the east is a rental we are lucky if they even cut the grass until it is way too high and then never cut or trim any bushes or trees that are along our fence. Same is true of two the ones behind us don't keep their yards or trees cut back, the third house behind us & our neighbors on the west are great they keep thing cleaned up. Our house is like a funnel in the fall for all the leaves to blow all the leaves in our front yard when the wind is from the South. They don't pick up their leaves and the means we get 3/4 of neighbors leaves on the circle.

PS...Think last year we had 53 30gal. bags of leaves and the city charges extra to pick them up after 10 bags. This year hubby is using his riding mower to chop them very fine & are using it for mulch.

Smart man you have! Our yard trash day is every Wednesday. You have to have it in bags or tied up. Is it 10 bags each time or how is it calculated?

10 bags each year....We have 2 dumpsters but have to pay extra for the second one they pick up on our street on Fri. & we get one of a big pick up a year free, but that is for large things that won't fit in the bin. We have a compactor so most of the time usually only 1 bin & if it is our regular man he don't care what is in the bin, so I can get rid of a lot of things that are not to be in our regular pick up each week. Can get about 2 30gal big bags or if we have limbs that have come down in storms in each of the bins.

Also are going to have our sewer line about 30 foot replaced from the back of the house to the main line the Monday after Thanksgiving and that not cheap, we to have policy that covers up to $4000 of that work so that helps with it, not cheap but the house was build in 72 I think.

I know where you are coming from. I have a back door that needs to be replaced. One of the window panes cracked into tiny pieces. I said just replace the door since it is old and not working well. Of course, it's a "special order" and only one company makes it. Supposed to be in by the 21st--I hope. Rick and my niece are biking on Florida west coast and coming back Wednesday. Hopefully my door will be in and he can put it up right after Thanksgiving weekend. Since it's special order, I have no idea what the cost will be. Time will tell.

Beautiful bird. We don't have that colour kingfisher in N.Z. Well it's only 9 pm but I'm off to bed. Absolutely exhausted after another big day of sorting, packing, & cleaning. Moving house after 18 yrs on the 2 acres that we retired to, after leaving our farm. Moving into town for the first time ever for my husband, and for me, it will be 49½ years since I lived in town. Hope that we can cope! It's going to take a bit of adjustment. Can't wait to get everything unpacked, and settle in. Hope ever we know this is what the Lord wants us to do, so we're happy with that. God Bless you all. Hope to be back on this site again soon.

We are renting from one of the Deacons in a trailer on 5 acres with privacy. Could not ask for better., Good luck with your new place God bless you too and hope you get some rest.

Moving house is one of the biggest causes of stress, so I feel for you. You will know if it is God's will for you, just keep praying. I would hate to move at this point in my life and I have been here for 16 years. Trying to downsize so I don't leave a big mess for someone else to clean up. Hugs Glenelle.

My Mom has been downsizing like crazy. She's hoping to sell the cottage next year. She basically downsized when moving from the farm on Manitoulin Island but now she's downsizing big time. The hope is to get an apartment so selling the cottage and moving into the new place can work together. Take care, Aussie and have a great day. Hugs!

My uncle has a cottage up in Mich. - about 40 families go up there. There's dining facilities on the premises too. All of the families know each other - each family has been coming there for 4 generations.

Hello Glenelle ~ hope the move went well! And yes, our NZ kingfishers are a very different colour. I like watching them around here and they are so pretty. Lots of water places around here at Te Aroha :) Bless you.

Beautiful bird - we have kookaburras here of the same family, not quite so colourful, but they have an amazing laugh and it is funny to hear there at 5am (not so funny for some) to hear a bunch of them laughing.

"I know there's other fish in the sea, but I lost my pole when the last one got away from me."

"Gratefulness is the key to a happy life that we hold in our hands, because if we are not grateful, then no matter how much we have we will not be happy, because we will always want to have something else, or something more." unknown

Good night and God bless. Hugs.

What you said about the kookaburras and their laughing brought back a pleasant but vague memory of singing a song in elementary school about laughing kookaburras. Now in the back of my mind I'll be trying to remember the words. What a good memory!

The quote about gratefulness is so very true. If we are grateful for what we have, we can be happy with just barely what we need. God bless you and many hugs, aussie.

Globug - Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
Merry, merry king of the bush is he.
Laugh, kookaburra, laugh, kookaburra,
Gay your life must be, haha,
Gay your life must be.

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree. Merry, merry king of the bush is he! Laugh kookaburra, laugh. Gay your life shall be!

I still remember it...why, I have no idea. That was around 50 years ago!

Here you go globug - must admit I have never heard of the second version of this song and there is a word used in both versions which would be "politically incorrect" these days

Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree,
Merry merry king of the bush is he.
Laugh, Kookaburra, laugh, Kookaburra,
Gay your life must be!
Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree,
Eating all the gum drops he can see.
Stop Kookaburra, stop Kookaburra
Save some there for me!
Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree,
Counting all the monkeys he can see.
Laugh Kookaburra, laugh Kookaburra
That's not a monkey, that's me!
Alternative verses
Kookaburra sits on the electric wire,
Jumping up and down, with his pants on fire.
Ouch, Kookaburra, ouch! Kookaburra,
Hot your tail must be!
Kookaburra sits on a rusty nail,
Gets a boo-boo in his tail.
Cry, Kookaburra, cry, Kookaburra,
Oh how life can be!
Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree,
Eating all the gum drops he can see.
Laugh Kookaburra, laugh Kookaburra
Gay your life must be!
