We have a lot of covered bridges here! They even have festivals for them!

I've always wondered why bridges were covered. The roads weren't. (I grew up not far from the famous Madison County, and I still don't know.)

Quick update, Baby Raul won't be a month old till this Friday, and he is already reaching out to bright toys that interest him!! I don't know nothin' bout no babies, but that seems advanced, to me. ;)

My guess is that bridges are covered because they freeze faster than roadways so it's a safety issue. Glad Raul is doing well.

That is good news orinoco. It sounds like the baby is developing just fine. He has good eyesight and developing right where he should be. I would not worry right now. It is in the later months and first year where you can see if he is developing where he should be.

In the northeastern USA bridges are covered to block wind gusts and so they don't have to be plowed. Most of them are protected not just by the roof but also on their sides. I've been on modern bridges over the Hudson where the sideways winds can push you over the lane markers. Imagine what that would do to something as light as a horse-and-buggy.

I never thought of that, abacii and xyxyxyxx. (Are you related, btw? ;) Especially the wind-gust thing. But then I can't drive.

No relation to abacii but I do agree about wind on the Hudson...had some scary moments on the Tappan Zee bridge years ago.

This was the first time I tried the 110 trapezoid. It is a fun challenge!

Neat old bridge Usually wooden structures. My wild guess is that they were covered so they would weather longer. Anyway I love them. Have not seen one in a good many years though. Almost a forgotten art of the past

Another delightful covered bridge.

"A smile starts on the lips, a grin spreads to the eyes, a chuckle comes from the belly; but a good laugh bursts forth from the soul, overflows, and bubbles all around." — Carolyn Birmingham6

"A well-balanced person is one who finds both sides of an issue laughable." — Herbert Procknow

Good night and God bless. Hugs.
