Has anyone noticed how thick the rind is on the watermelon. I guess they get more money as it is sold by the pound. Some times it is hard to cut the rind off, I don't remember it be so thick a few years ago. Maybe my age is showing and it just seems harder. lol

Reminds me of a very welcome stop we had during WWII ---- traveling through the south to my Dad's next Navy assignment. It was hot (before air conditioning) and we saw a sign that said "Watermelon" There were people there and we stopped. There were many tables ---- all covered in oil cloth --- and tilted slightly so that the juice ran off into a tub at the end of the table. We ate slice after slice --- so refreshing in the heat. Thanks for the memory!
