So pretty.......I had a pair of parakeets. One this color and the other yellow. I called them Ma and Pa. When I had them out of their cage they would come right to my shoulder when I would call them by name. They were older when I got them and the man that had them couldn't take care of them any longer. Loved them so much.

Hi Hockeyfan, I had a blue w/black markings parakeet when I was young. His name was Chipper. He would sit on my shoulder and pick at my hair. One day in spring my mom opened a window, he flew away. Don't know what he was doing out of his cage? :( No more Chipper.

Hi tomandray, that is sad about Chipper. Would love to have another pair, but, they make such a mess on the floor with the seed. I'm too old to be cleaning that up every day so not to track it. LOL.

Oh yes, I remember that mess. Guess that's why Chipper "flew away". :(

Went to the pet store yesterday and they had a pair of parakeets that were as quiet as a church mouse. The worker said they hardly ever chirped. Makes one wonder if they were healthy!

Hi Hockeyfan,
Yes, I tend to agree with you. If they are not chirping, they could be ill or have been in a traumatic place at some point in their lives. Happy birds would want to sing or "talk"; they would be chatty.
May you have a blessed Palm Sunday. :)

We had a green parakeet for several years named "Chipper". He wasn't nearly as dark a green and his beak was very normal colored. This must be some kind of exotic specimen from India. Very pretty, however. I betcha Chipper had a better personality!
