Been a long time since I have been to Yellowstone. Remember having a good time and sleeping in the car at night--not much money in 1960 I think. Had just started teaching and my friend and I went around the United States..I took $400 and she took $500. Stayed with friends when we could. Were gone 6 weeks. Still have the notes I made about the trip. Quick puzzle to do.

I've been to the Grand Canyon but on this road. This national park is usually booked one year in advance. I wanted to stay or eat at the El Tovar Hotel. It's located on one of the rims of the canyon. They were mentioned on tv.

Been to both, Carol, and didn't see this road at either place. How could I have missed this? Sme glitch in my computer is locking me out of some of my Yellowstone photos so I can't check. grrrr.

I've been to both places as well. One year we were at the Grand Canyon. A visitor suggested to get up really early and wait for the sun comes up. It was in April and really cool. There were strong winds - I was saying brrr. Computer glitches oh I've had those too. I was even grrr at one person. One year while visiting Yellowstone at the entrance - there was a guy passing out flyers. After you gave them your money for the admission. It was a notice to stay away from Bison. This was a fact sheet on the animal - that year a visitor was too close and was gored.

We had one tie up traffic for a mile as it insisted on walking down the middle of the road. No way to stay away from him. Luckily he wasn't upset by anything and just kept loping along as we edged by.

Oh wow - when this flyer was given to my bil he read the fact sheet about the Bison. He then replies omg! My nephew was 9 at the time and he was trying to figure out what the big deal was. My bil had to tell him what it was like being hit by a bison. He says think of like this. Stand on a 3 story building and falling. I've decided this am that I'll be changing jobs now. Something happened this am - FYI - don't want to be beaten up again.....lol or be told oh your behavior is inexcusable! One day I was doped on pain meds and then thought about cancelling my account! Got off the internet in tears!

Spent a night in a pup tent in Yellowstone National Park a long time ago and apparently a bear went by the tent. I was so tired that I slept right through it - just as well lol.

Q: Why didn't they make two Yogi bears?

A: Because someone made a Boo Boo.

lol and boom boom

My sons were on a Boy Scout back-packing trek when they were visited by a bear. All of their food was in bear sacks hanging high up in the trees, but the bear smashed up their cooking area looking for it. When he couldn't find any, he went around the circle of tents full of sleeping Scouts and broke the wooden tent poles in all of the tents. The tents collapsed on all the now very frightened teens...Nobody was hurt! In spite of all the broken equipment, it made for a great story around campfires for many years!

Aussie, when my hubby and I were tent camping in West Virginia some years back I had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. We were at a rustic campsite and it was cold so I went just a few feet from the tent. Next morning we got up and there was a huge bear footprint within a foot of our tent door. Yikes!

Our family went when I was 14. What a fantastic place Yellowstone is.

I've been fortunate to visit Yosemite twice in my life. A truly incredible place.

Beautiful area I hope to visit within the next two years. The engineers must have tied the road into the rock somehow. To look at the outside of the supports scares me, as the land beneath is quite scanty.
