I had a 9 ft stock tank. they would grow to about 7 or 8 inches but they multiplied so much it hindered their growth.

Most goldfish in the USA are more of a golden color. Gold fish grow to the size of their environment. I am large pond, they become much larger. In a small fish bowl, they remain small.

I saw something not too long ago about people being warned not to dump goldfish into streams, I think in Australia. People were catching goldfish that were over a foot long and weighed several pounds - they also eat up a lot of the food that is normally eaten by native fish, endangering those populations.

I have seen quite a few gold fish that were over a foot long in ponds. It gives us something to pond-er.

And yes, I am aware that gold fish don't have feet.

I think I have a black thumb where gold fish are concerned, they seem to go belly up in a very short space of time. :(

Two Goldfish in a bowl.

One says to the other "Help I'm dieing."

Other one says "Don't worry, I'm a sturgeon."

What is yellow and dangerous? - Shark infested custard! -

Boom, boom

Take care and may God bless you with a sense of humour to put up with my jokes ;) Hugs.

Aussie....these fish contaminate their water because they "poop" a lot...overfeeding etc....water change is very important and detoxing tap water is a must. AND you need to remember their home...one inch of fish per one gallon of water...so if you have a 5 inch fish you need a 5 gallon container and as the fish grows their home needs to be larger...the larger the home the easier it is to take care of.
Good luck with your next try.

Hello aussiesapphire and all here, I am glad I came on here today as you have brought A BIG SMILE to my face with your jokes. while away from here, my hubby read all the comments for me and did the puzzles as I tried to recover from ''my darker days''. which I hope are getting ''brighter''. as regards goldfish when my son was 2 now 44 he got a goldfish from Gramps a kindly gentleman who lived next door and all his family lived in the USA. By the age of 6, 4 goldfish lived and died and he never knew as I took the dead one to the pet shop and bought a similar one. he found no 5 dead and with a big grin on his face. he said ''now can I dig a hole so the worms will have food''...So much for me worrying about him. God Bless you all and may you all see brighter days.x

Dear D5, May your 'darker days' become shorter and your 'brighter days' become longer. Memories like this one about your son can help, so keep thinking of those. :-) Take care!!
