My mystery for today
May 23, 2016
You can tell whose kid this is. Just look at the parent. We raised goats most of my life at home because I was allergic to cow's milk. We had to milk them every morning before school and every evening. But that's an udder story.

A farm not too far from me raises a few goats. Fun to watch them walk on the fences and sleep on top of the gates.

There's a goat farm just over the hill from us and I can sometimes smell the goats. It's not unpleasant since the odor isn't that strong.

It's only the old billy-goats that reek. I remember travelling along a track in the hill country when an old billy got onto the track and ran ahead of us. He just would not get off the track, and with every bound he released billy-goat pong.....would make your eyes water! But I love goats- intelligent, agile and very social: makes me so sad to see lonely, tethered goats, especially along roadsides.

Cute goats

They look so cute - pity they eat everything that is not tied down, and even some of that too lol

"How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these." George Washington Carver

Good night dear friends, hope you slept well :) Hugs.

The Socrates quote is fascinating. My husband would like that one.

Certainly agree with G.W. Carver. And have been in the place whereof Socrates speaks.

I once had an encounter with a goat that started to chew the sleeve on my cardigan! As I pulled my arm away to examine my sleeve, it then made a start on my shoulder bag....................- I've learned my lesson since then ;)! Have to admit that I'd love one to keep the grass trimmed in my garden :-D.

It doesn't work. We bought some goats to do just that and found out later that goats are not grazers. They are foragers. I'm thankful that we had some really good neighbors. Our nanny got out one day and ate all of the leaves off of 5 of their peach trees. They never said anything about it, but I know they knew.

They are being used to keep land from being overgrown with brush. It must work because they are rented out for it. I think for grass you need sheep.

My Dad once borrowed a goat to control the poison oak on our property. It didn't like poison oak any better than we did.
