Still here off and on, have had so much rain w/lightning that it has been interesting, I bring up radar and set it to where I can see where it is at and how fast storm is moving so when it get close I can shut down & up plug my computer. Noticed you have been on today, was trying to get caught up, finally did. Hello & Goodnight to both of you. Either the thunder wakes me up all night or the weather radio is beeping away. Think we have until the first of next week before it sets in again for 4 days....

Hi CatLadyOKC,

We've been getting quite a few storms coming through here, still scheduled for today. Supposed to clear Thur./Fri. and very nice for the weekend. :) Been watching for the storms and also shutting down computer. Don't want to have to replace it. I do get the worst headaches when those storms roll in. Went to bed with a heat pack yesterday trying to get the congestion down. :( How is the Crickett doing with all the storms? Can't be to easy on him? Poor guy. >^-^< Well, take it easy and have a good day. :)

Crickett doesn't seem to let them bother him too much, just doesn't like the puddles...or left out (doesn't like to get wet at all), he is hard to brush doesn't like the spray detangler. As a kitten he used to wash his face & paws in the downstairs bathroom while hubby was shaving, and he also expected to get his aftershave too. He has an appt. next Monday to check out how his "treats" are doing, seems to be putting some weight on, and he also has his "I rule the house" attidude back....Think we are going to have a rain free day for a change, so I'll only have to unplug computer tonight. Having to crawl under desk to do that a several times a day is really getting to me. Getting to old for that....Good to hear from you, was beganning to wonder, but also knew you were getting storms too. I usually catch the local weather & also the national weather. We did have a 4.1 earthquake this week, but it was in the northern part of state & we didn't feel it. Local weather is now reporting them everytime we get one. Think they said we have taken the title away from Calif. for the most in a year, but ours are usually smaller and in areas that are not so populated. So thrilled to hear that. Take care & you have a good day too....keep me posted on what is going on with you & Hockeyfan haven't heard much from her lately, hope she is just busy doing Spring things.

Hi CatLadyOKC,
Good to hear Crickett is doing okay. Keep me posted on his vet appointment. It's good he is putting on some weight and strutting around the house with his kitty attitude. We've been watching the weather very closely, looked like we were going to have a storm, but it blew right past us. Good thing too, as the workers came in yesterday and replaced the gutters and drain spouts on the house. Looks so good with the new gutters. We're going to have a few nice days, right through the weekend. I did notice the storms you had and the quakes in the north part of your state. That has to be frightening. So glad they are no where near you. I "see" Hockeyfan on FB and message back to her, but she is not doing much with her e-mail. Does not want to use up too much time on their account, hubby uses it too. I enjoyed the little story about Crickett when he was a kitten, washing up. :)) Cute. Thanks for sharing. >^-^< Not much else going on. Thur. is grocery shopping day, what excitement. :)) Take care and have a good day. :)

Just leaving you an update, we are fine just a litte stressed, but were missed w/tornadoes & flood. Will be spending limited time today & tomorrow on puzzles as the next two days are to be the same, only the the risk goes up. We were in the 6.8" of rain, also in orginal path of three tornadoes but they chg'd direction at the last minute. By Sunday may be sitting in a corner talking to myself! Keep us posted as to what you are doing.

I didn't realise anywhere had more earthquakes than Calif. Where are you?? I am from Calif. and so used to them they don't bother me much at all.

May 7, 2015
We live in Moore, Oklahoma, we have only felt 1 or 2 earth quakes here most are north of us. They don't bother me near as much as the storms do. Guess we had one again today (north again) 3.1 this morning didn't feel it.

Ian't that in the tornado belt?? If so, I hope you stay safe from the tornados. The thought of them really scares me. I have seen so much damage on TV. I wouldn't wish them on anybody.

Not looking forward for this afternoon & tomorrow, suppose to have more rounds with them, didn't have any in our area last evening. Our home is between where the 1999 F5 & the 2013 F4 ones went thru here. Yes, they are very scary. Makes for a very stressful day with me.

Oh my, CatLadyOKC!!!! I saw the weather on Weather.com last night. The tornadoes in OK are terrible this year. Are you okay? Worry about you. Be somewhere safe. Keep well.
We are okay. Have had some good weather, warm in the high 80's.
Our car broke down, same part that broke down last October and was fixed with a new part, not refurbished. Car parts are not made they way they are supposed to be made anymore. Good thing we had a lifetime warranty on the life of the car. Got a new part, but hubby had to do the job all over again. :( Not very happy with that company.
Keep well CatLadyOKC. Let me know how you are doing when you are able.
TO: Animalvr143....There is nothing more scarey and stressful than tornadoes, earthquakes and hurricanes. I've been through 2 earthquakes, 5 tornadoes, 4 major hurricanes, and the years up in Connecticut, countless blizzards and snowstorms with the power loss on most of them. All quite stressful. I feel for the people in the path of any of these weather threats. 1999 was the year of the fires in Orange County, FL. In some neighborhoods, the smoke was so thick we couldn't breath without covering up our nose and mouth.
Hoping you are well and out of danger. Have a good day. :)

We have a lot of fires in the Los Angeles and surrounding areas of Calif. Fortunately none of the fire or lives lost are in my Torrance area south of LA. A couple of years ago a whole fire crew was lost when the fire suddenly changed directions in the mountains near here. There are so many houses in the area, often a lot either get burned or flooded out with mudslides when the next heavy rains come. My house is safe tho unless the earthquake fault nearby breaks.

Hi Animalvr143, Sounds like a stressful place to live. But it must be beautiful place to live, to have so many people and houses in the area. In the past, I have seen the Calif. mudslides and the fires.

Sat/morn update: Still fine, but stressed have another round today, the flooding here is terrible, but we are in a safe area (not flood plane), but hard to get around since we are having so many roads flooded. Crickett is also doing fine, still taking his tornado precautions. Hubby would love to help yours, he stays busy keeping our extra car, grandaughters camero, one our son got for his son to have in a couple of years, and ours. I think it his way not to help me with house & yard work. Have a great day!!!

Hi CatLadyOKC, Happy Mother's Day! Hope today is stress free for you. And all your storms have passed. So glad to hear you are not flooded. Too bad you live so far, our hubbies could get together to fix the cars, they love doing that. And Crickett could be in charge of all the tools and supervising! :)) >^-^< Please be safe, and have a great day. :)

Happy Mother's Day to you...son just called me, we woke up at 5 am to storms again, just rain and lightening (don't need the rain), we could get another round this afternoon-evening. Then we are suppose to have 2 days without rain then another 4 or 5 after that of storms again. May is our most active month but we have had in every month of the year since they have been keeping track of them. Crickett loves to help with the cars, in fact he got something off one of them that has actually got a little chemical burn from it around his nose & mouth - vet cleaned it up a check it out when we there last week. He is doing real well taking his treat and has already gained a pound back. They have ordered more treats for us to give him and do not need to see him again unless we notice any problems. Our grass is doing wonderful, may need to bale it next time we can cut it which looks like at least another week since the ground is so wet that the mower will leave ruts. If you have contact with hockyfan tell her to have a Happy Mother's day for us.

Hi there CatLadyOKC, Hope you are doing well. I gave your message to Hockeyfan....says "Hi". I have not been feeling well for a few days, just stomach distress and terrible headaches. It's been very hot and stormy here. Not good beach weather. Have been curled up on the sofa doing "word finds" and reading. Have laundry in the washer, not a very exciting day. A caress for Crickett, glad he's doing well. Take care and stay out of the heat. Have a great day. :)

Still here, trying to catch up puzzles...getting ready for 2 more days of storms. No drought there anymore lakes are full again, some are overflowing. Not much is going on with us. Computer has been down more than up lately. Crickett says he want some boots, tired of wet feet. Hope you get to feeling better soon!!!

Hi CatLadyOKC, I am also catching up with puzzles. Last time I was here was Mother's Day. So far today, no rain or storms. :) Able to stay on the computer to do puzzles. :) I chuckled at the thought of Crickett in boots! Sounds like a story title. :)) >^-^< Feeling better as the day has progressed, starting to mend. Thanks. :) Finishing up laundry, made steak sandwiches for dinner, my day almost done. Have a great evening. :)

I like corn on the cob, but really don't like removing the husks and getting rid of all of the corn silk.

Jamie T, we just consider the silk to be Nature's dental floss! KInda needed after eating corn, too.

Remove the husk and most of the silk and then rub the ear with a DRY paper towel. It will remove the rest of the silk. Don't try to wash the silk off, doesn't work.

I've also recently seen where someone cut off the stem end and a tiny bit of the end of the cob (still in the husk) and then microwaved the corn for 4 minutes on high. He then took the corn at the pointy end and squeezed out the cob with no husk or silks left on. Another person said they could do the same thing but putting the ear in the coals of a grill.

Try cooking it in the microwave. Trim off the top silk and remove a few layer of husk. put in microwave for 8-10 minutes depending on size of corn and how cooked you like. after its done in the microwave let it cook a few minutes. (I use a few layers of paper towel to handle the corn) strip way the husk and silk by pulling from top to bottom. By doing it in the microwave, you have no pots to clean up and the silks and husks are easier to manage after they are cooked. Hope this works for you.

Correction: let cool a few minutes. (have always said if I had to earn a living as a typist, I'd starve to death. lol

JamieT
TRY THIS
1 Place the corn in the microwave, do not remove the husk. Microwave the corn on the high setting for 4 minutes.

2 Use a kitchen towel or pot holder to remove corn from the microwave (it's hot! ) Cut off the bottom of the corn, stem end, about one row of corn in from the stem

3 Slip off the husk and silk.

That's it
