I have the 2 purple ones (light & dark) in one of my flower beds, hubby built a trellis for them to climb on, very pretty when they bloom.

These are clemantis and come in several colors. They love to climb and some bloom in the early spring and others in the early summer. They can become a really nice addition to your garden!

Toadalove, you seem to know a lot about plants. Do you know of any child safe plants you can plant to keep mosquitoes away?

No I do not, wish I did. One thing you can do is try to keep things dry and do not have anything filled with water hanging out there. There are some child safe mosquito repellant. Check on line for more stuff.

Had 2 very similar to this one on a trellis in my front flower bed, my neighbor spray them and the rest of the bed with round up. Only thing that survived was one of the decorative grasses in
the far corner of the bed. She also sprayed or vegetable garden after we had managed to keep it alive during the summer and were hoping to get some fall production for it.

How can she get away with that? isn't she destroying someone else's property?

We have the neighbor from you know where! We have been stealing her yard since '83 when we moved in, the horror stories are too much, we cannot get a company to work on that side of the yard more than one time! Have even had a police mediator out and he couldn't get thru to her. This is not the first time she has done things like that. She destroyed a small dec. fence the day after I got it put up. All the neighbors around her have had the same problems.

May God give you the strength to be able to deal with her through Him.

We are thinking about downsizing, over the next year and I will definitely check out the neighbors.
This 2 story house is just getting to be to much to keep up and we don't need the space for just the two of us, plus a large yard.

I live out in the sticks. But it is just such problems as you have, catlady, that keeps me here. I'd rather have nature problems, than people problems. I want to downsize too, but I'd hate to get neighbors like that.

I've lived in cities, small towns, and even a company housing area and have never had a neighbor like this one. Really enjoyed living in the company housing (kids were young) and even if we were in western KS, don't think the weather was as changeable (not sure that is a word) as it is here. Upper 80's yesterday & snowing this morning. Wind is blowing the snow sideways!

GOOD MORNING TO ALL! Still doing flowers...These were the color of the ones I had...will move the trellis & try again! THINK SPRING!!! (Even if it's only 43 here and fog & drizzle, will sleet to snow and at least 3 nites in the lower teens - back to dripping). We got the necesities food & books this morning!

Would like to put up a trellis and climbing plants like this at end of my patio. Sounds like a great spring project. :) This is so lovely and refreshing to the eye.
