I've never actually seen an elk. We don't have them in South Africa. Quite majestic I have to say.

Shortshoughton, they are indeed majestic and very graceful, even with the heavy rack the bulls have. They also bugle during mating season, a high-pitched almost whistle - not what you'd expect from such a large animal.

Could I please ask for prayers for my dear mother in law, she is having surgery for breast cancer this morning. We won't know bad it is until they get in there. Be safe out there.

I saw one like that in Yellowstone last summer. The females are so used to people they graze right next to the road and restaurants and lie in the grass for a nap like big old dogs.
The magpies land on their backs and eat the insects off.

Darambo, any surgery is worrisome, but cancer surgeries are the worst of the bunch. My prayers to your MIL for a speedy and healthy recovery.
