Yes, that is unusual to have a house connected to the lighthouse. I wonder if they have a maid who was hired to do light housekeeping?

Ha, that's very good! I'm sure they have a very bright butler too, lol.

They keep the place ship shape and the owner beams because of it.

Maybe the light house isn't connected to the house. Can imagine an extremely bright light at night. Just think the photographer took the shot so it looks it that way.

Since the house is light, it was easy to attach!

Ha ha; love it. I grew up in Massachusetts and miss the coast. I've been in the mid-west over 60 years. The Missouri River just doesn't quite "do it" for me. :-)

We are just trying to shed some light on the subject - unlike some dogs and cats which only shed fur all over the house.

Yep thx PW - dogs and cats can shed all over the place. I didn't want to go to a friend of hubbys house one day. Ugh!

Cats do shed hair. My 3 cats love to be combed. 2 of them lay on the floor between my legs at least 2 times a day to get combed. They love it. One has to be in the chair to get combed and whiggles the whole time, but loves it.

I used to try that. Neither of them would tolerate it. I love cats but now in my 70's don't want the extra work or the possibility of huge vet expenses; or the possibility of dying before my pet.

I do worry about my pets outliving me, but they are so much company. I'm almost 81 so I have more to worry about than you. They go to the Vet's every year and so far they are healthy. The oldest one is 10 years old, then 8, than 3. Have a great day!

I take ours in every year as well. Then I'd get a postcard from the county saying I didn't update her rabies shot. After calling the vet I contacted the county back. I explained I take her in every year for the checkup. I then told them that she's not due til next year for her rabies. Back in November I received another card from the county. They didn't have the correct information. Again they were telling me I didn't get her the shot - I explained to them the reason she didn't get the rabies shot was because she passed. Really miss that dog! She had just turned 12. The one we have now - omg her does the funniest things!

The county sent me the card about my dog each year. I called them and they said oh you didn't update your dogs rabies vaccine. I called the vet and inquired about the shots. I then called back the county domestic services. I told them nope she's not due in for another 2 years. I told them I take her in each year. Then was told oh they don't fax the paper work. The vets office said we fax them every month.

Very unusual. Notice the lightening rods on the roof. The lighthouse looks like it is attached but the light isn't directed toward the house. Notice the blockage on that side.

Very unusual lighthouse - have never seen one with a house attached.

Good morning all! This weekend there is supposed to be a tour of all R.I. lighthouses with fees adjusted for seniors. I'm puzzled--does this mean we old folks are more interested in history? Anyway, I might go. Sounds like fun to me! I read a book once about a nurse who had a house/hospital attached to a lighthouse. She kept a lookout for ship wrecks & would swim out to rescue people in distress. Many people. Her entire life. Sorry guys can't remember details probably because of 2 comas I was in due to my epilepsy-sorry Ronnie but I might have to disagree about some of your quotes.

I had read that the brain starts working the instant you wake up in the morning and doesn't stop until you get to the office. Often true in my case.

You know db- I'm going to look in my Nook. I have 256 books read, so give me some time! OK? OK. Okay so I can't find it--now I'm thinking maybe it was a PBS special about this famous nurse with sketches which were included in the book-sorry for my poor memory. db-you have a great day also! I will call PBS people on Mon and also call Providence paper Mon & see if I can get any info from Book Editor....I was spellbound reading or watching this historical account. I think she even had a dog who helped her out.

I looked up something about the lighthouse and it seems it wasn't originally attached: In 1875-1876, a 61-foot stone tower and a beautiful Victorian residence were constructed to replace the original tower, which was threatened by erosion. These structures still stand today. Bricks from the original keeper's house formed the foundation for the new house. The old cylindrical tower was moved adjacent to the new keeper's residence. A square tower was built around the old tower "to be more compatible with the keeper's house." (Tinney, Burdett-Watkins, p. 13; Seaway Trail Video)

There are two famous women in the lifeboat services: Grace Darling UK and Grace Bussell Australia. There are books written about them, but I didn't see anything about a hospital.

The only person I found that nursed people after shipwrecks was Grace Darling. She lived in the Longstone Lighthouse with her parents. They have written several books about her and there was a BBC special about her.

I wonder was it built that way or was the house an addition
