Good morning everyone. What lovely tulips. I have some deep purple tulips that I planted several years ago, hope they come up again this year. Maybe some of you can help me with a gardening problem??? When I plant bulbs they only live for a few years and then the bulbs seem to decay from the inside, the outer papery covering is still in the dirt and looks like a bulb until you pick it up and there is no interior. Tried digging them up then replanting at proper time, so now I just don't as to what the problem is. Our weather is still really bad, lots of strong wind and snow. I hope the rest you are having better weather today. Aussie how is the flooding going? Everyone be safe.

Darambo, bulbs can just rot in the ground, especially some of the new hybrids. You're lucky if you get 5 years from them, in my experience. However, my neighbor has tulips that bloom each year and were planted in 1981! They receive absolutely no care - rental property now.

I agree with aknan, they can rot. Can they also get bugs eating the insides? I have had no luck planting bulbs in FL between the armadillos, pigs, and sandy soil, one batch got green but then no flowers, then gone the next year. I gave up on them. I'm sure we have plenty of critters in the soil to eat them too. But the ones I planted up north in WA state grew and returned wonderfully.

Just thought of this, you probably already know but you need to leave the green there (don't cut it back) after the bloom, so it can give the bulb energy to store and use for next year's bloom.

Manatee have had no sign of bugs, but do get the occasional gopher, oh! and don't forget the deer. I do leave the greenery until it starts to die back. We also have very sandy soil, what a pain to try to grow things between the sandy soil and the very short growing season we have I'm surprised I can get anything to grow outside. Inside is another matter, I've run out of room for my plants and my husband has said he thinks there is enough...can't get to certain windows because of them. Just love plants. Take care and be safe.

Running late tonight, someone hacked into my facebook account and I have been trying to sort that out. So dear friends I bid you good night and God bless. Take care. Hugs,

Hope all is well with Facebook, aussie. Nasty business, that hacking!

I do not think my facebook has ever been compromised as of yet. I do not go on as often as I used to. Maybe once a day to see how my family and friends are doing.

I think I have solved the problem with a new password. We will see. Hugs

I love tulips. They are one of my favourite flowers. I can't wait until spring. We are having an awful snowstorm now.

Lovely wrapped present and beautiful tulips. I have always liked tulips. My husband's late wife must have planted 10 different varieties around the house. Spring is absolutely lovely here when everything is in bloom and there is no snow on the ground!! We got around 3-5 inches on top of the 1-2 inches of ice from last week....we must move to a warmer place!!!!
